Local Pee Wee State Champions

Josh Rouse, Brennan Coakley, Scott Grant (front) and Ryan Bigham – all of Newtown – played decisive roles last weekend (March 3-5) as the New Milford Youth Hockey Pee Wee “A” team captured the Division III State Hockey Championship in a tournament played at the East Haven Ice Rink. The Pee Wees, ages 12 and 13, defeated Eastern Connecticut and Newington to qualify for the semi-final and then defeated Darien to reach the tournament final on Sunday against South Windsor. In the final, New Milford edged South Windsor, 4-3, and will now move on to the Northeast Sectional Tournament on March 17 in West Haven, playing against championship teams from other New England States and New York. Rouse and Bigham were captains for the championship game.
