Peter Michael Rogalin
Peter Michael Rogalin died peacefully on February 24 after a courageous four-year battle with bladder cancer. Peter was born in New York City, N.Y., on December 8, 1942. He was the son of Maurice Rogalin, Jr, and Dorothy Lowndes. As an only child, Peter spent his early years attending New York City Public Schools. This began his lifelong love of books, music, and the arts.
He attended St Lawrence University in upstate New York where he earned his dual degree in math (BS) and economics (BA). At St Lawrence University, Peter was an active member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity where he shared many wonderful times with The Boys: Durk, Dave, and Floyd. Peter was in ROTC and went into service shortly after graduation where he served his country proudly as First Lieutenant in the Army in Korea.
Upon his return to the states, Peter enrolled in New York University where he earned his MBA and then two years later, passed his CPA exam. Peter started a long and successful career in finance spanning five decades at major pharmaceutical and drug companies in the greater NYC Metropolitan Area. He traveled the world extensively serving as Vice President in International Finance at Sterling Drug and Chief Financial Officer at Imclone Systems and Roberts Pharmaceuticals. For many years, he served on the Fanwood, N.J., Board of Education as well as the Board president of the Fraser Woods Montessori School in Newtown, Conn.
As a lifelong learner, Peter was an avid reader and an amazing cook. He enjoyed traveling, riding his motorcycle, boating on the water, watching his birds, being with his dogs, and spending time with his family.
Peter is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Joyce, and his children, Brian and his wife, Jennifer; Lauren and her husband, Michael; Christopher and his wife, Daniella; Cole; and Chloe. He is also survived by his loving grandchildren, Madeline, Sophia, Lily, Alessandra, and Nicholas; as well as his cousins and dear friends. The love for Peter extended to his dogs, Charlie and Coco, who stayed by his side all four years once he was diagnosed with cancer.
Peter and his family lived in various communities: Forest Hills, N.Y., Glen Rock, N.J., Holmdel, N.J., Brookfield, Conn., Newtown, Conn., Southampton, N.Y., and recently was settling in Bradenton, Fla. The family loved all their homes, schools, and communities and will cherish those memories forever.
We’re grateful for our recent celebrations of Peter’s birthday and 28th wedding anniversary with friends and family. These and all family events are the memories Peter will always have with him.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Peter’s memory can be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Vietnam Veterans of America.
May we continue to honor his memory with love and kindness.
