Interstate Crash

At about 7:38 am on February 19, motorist Ian McIntyre, 52, of 76 Marlin Road, who was driving a 1998 Toyota 4-Runner SUV, stopped for traffic during heavy traffic conditions on westbound Interstate 84 near Exit 10 and was then struck from behind by motorist Lawrence Arpino, 67, of Torrington, who was driving a 2009 Nissan Maxima sedan, state police said.

There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

Stuck In Snowbank

Police report that motorist Logan James Puleri, 18, of 8 Boulder Creek Road was driving a 2008 Volkswagen Jetta sedan northward on Parmalee Hill Road at about 2:30 am on February 22, when he applied the brakes as he approached its intersection with Butterfield Road, but the auto slid on the icy road, went through the intersection and then got stuck on a snowbank.

There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Two Warrants

Police said that after learning that they held warrants for his arrest, David Booth, 49, of 52 Lakeview Terrace went to the police station on February 25 and was charged with two counts of second-degree failure to appear in court.

Police said that the warrants were issued by the courts because Booth had failed to appear in court on scheduled dates in two separate pending cases against him.

After processing, police released Booth on $1,000 bail for a March 11 appearance in Danbury Superior Court, and on $35,000 bail for a March 12 appearance in Bridgeport Superior Court.

Burglary/Larceny

Police report that at about 12:59 am on February 27, they learned via alarm that a burglary had occurred at New Main Moon, a Chinese takeout restaurant located in Hawleyville at 23 Barnabas Road, near Hawleyville Road.

Someone forcibly entered the building and then stole an unspecified amount of cash from a cash register, police said.

Three Violations

Police said that at about 7:28 am on February 28, they were monitoring motorists’ travel speeds with radar equipment on Poverty Hollow Road, near its intersection with Morris Road.

Police said they detected that motorist Andrew Wood, 29, of 14 Twist Hill Road was driving southward on Poverty Hollow Road at 51 miles per hour in a posted 30-mph zone, so they stopped him to investigate.

Police said they charged Wood with traveling too fast, driving with a suspended license, and driving an unregistered vehicle. Wood was released on a written promise to appear on March 13 in Danbury Superior Court, according to police.

I-84 DUI, Four Other Charges

State police report a two-vehicle accident on Interstate 84 which resulted in a woman being charged with five offenses.

State police said motorist Michael Bokowki, 63, of Milford, who was driving a 2007 Jeep Liberty SUV, stopped for heavy traffic on eastbound Interstate 84, near Exit 9, about 4:07 pm on February 28, after which motorist Sandra Jubenville, 48, of 126 South Main Street, who was driving a 1994 Saturn SL-2 sedan, struck the Jeep from behind.

The Saturn then drove away from the accident scene, after which Newtown police located Jubenville driving it on Main Street, state police said.

After investigating, state police charged Jubenville with driving under the influence, evading responsibility, failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, failure to have automotive insurance, and possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana. Jubenville was released on $500 bail for a March 17 court appearance, state police said.

Honda Down Bank

Motorist Sean Riley, 31, of Brookfield was driving a 2006 Honda Accord sedan northward on South Main Street about 2:43 am on March 1 and intended to turn right onto Mile Hill Road, but started to make that turn too soon and went onto a snowbank, police said.

The auto then went over the snowbank and down and embankment, police said. Riley was not injured. Police said they verbally warned Riley for making an improper turn.

Berkshire Road Crash

A two-vehicle accident occurred near 303 Berkshire Road (Route 34) about 11:45 pm on March 2. The location is about halfway between Berkshire Road’s intersections with Great Quarter Road and Jordan Hill Road.

Police said that Juan Carlos Flores-Degante, 30, of New Haven was driving a commercial 2001 Ford F-150 pickup truck eastward on Berkshire Road and then stopped for a deer in the roadway, after which eastbound motorist Vincenzo Ferrucci, 40, of Hamden, who was driving a 2000 Subaru Legacy sedan, struck the rear end of the Ford.

There were no injuries. Sandy Hook volunteer firefighters responded to the incident to handle hazardous conditions on the roadway caused by the collision.

After investigating, police issued Ferrucci an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart and for driving an unregistered vehicle. Police issued Flores-Degante and infraction for driving without a license.

DUI Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Bruce Clark, 62, of Bethel turned himself in at the police station on the morning of March 3 and was charged in connection with a one-vehicle accident that occurred on the night of December 22 on Sugar Street, near its intersection with Head O’ Meadow Road.

Police said they charged Clark with driving under the influence, reckless driving, making a restricted turn, and making a false statement.

Police have said that Clark was driving a 1999 GMC K-1500 pickup truck westward on Sugar Street, when while negotiating a curve in the road, the vehicle went off the right side of the street and struck a utility pole. The truck then rolled over about two times and came to rest on an embankment alongside the road. Clark was extricated from the wreckage, after which he was transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries, police have said.

After processing the arrest on March 3, police released Clark on $1,000 bail for a March 19 court appearance.

Vandalism

Police report that someone did more than $1,400 worth of property damage at Eichler’s Cove, the town park on Lake Zoar in Sandy Hook that includes a beach and marina. Police were called to the park at Old Bridge Road on March 3, where they found that someone had intentionally cut nine inflatable buoys that are used at the park to indicate the boundaries of the swimming area at the Lake Zoar beach. Each buoy is valued at about $160.

Evading Responsibility

Police report that at about 6:45 pm on March 3, they went to 41 Riverside Road where they served an arrest warrant against Justin Gaynor, 26, of that address, charging him in connection with a December 21 motor vehicle accident in Sandy Hook Center.

Police charged Gaynor with evading responsibility, failure to drive to the right, and failure to have automotive insurance.

Police said that that Gaynor had been driving a vehicle eastward on Riverside Road about at 10:17 am on December 21, when the vehicle went out of control and then struck a decorative lightpost near 1 Riverside Road. Police said that Gaynor left the accident scene after the collision.

On March 3, after processing, police released Gaynor on $1,000 bail for a March 25 court appearance.
