Police Lieutenant George Sinko reports that during the month of February, the police departmentâs traffic unit stopped more than 115 motor vehicles to investigate for possible traffic violations.
The unit focused on enforcing speeding, stop sign, and illegal cellphone use violations, among other offenses.
During February, the traffic unit aided the patrol unit in investigating two cases of motorists evading responsibility following collisions.
One case involved an incident that occurred on February 18 on Poverty Hollow Road, which remains under investigation, according to Lt Sinko. The other case involved a cooperative investigation with the Danbury Police Department in which an arrest was made, he said.
Also, the police departmentâs truck inspector stopped several commercial trucks during February. Those checks resulted in three trucks being taken off the road until required repairs could be made.
The police department enforces traffic laws to make local roads safer, Lt Sinko said in a statement.
