High Quality Representation In Bolinsky
To The Editor:
Like many, I was excited when Representative Bolinsky told me he would be seeking reelection for a 5th term. Through bipartisan relationship building, his committee work, and leadership positions, Mitch has proven to be a devoted and successful legislator, caring about and advancing the interests of Newtown as our voice in Hartford.
As a Council member I’ve worked closely with Mitch. I have seen him work tirelessly behind the scenes to keep projects moving along and get answers for residents. From proposing and implementing a predictable alternative to Governor Malloy’s draconian education cuts in 2017, which would have cost Newtown property taxpayers millions, to coordinating with local officials on a bipartisan resolution against a toll in Newtown with an unknown impact on our local roads and traffic, Mitch always puts Newtown first.
What I admire about Mitch is that he is not a born politician, rather he is someone who cares deeply about our community and runs for the right reasons. He is deferential when credit is due, doesn’t push to get in every photo, and prefers accomplishments without fanfare. His low-key style makes him effective in Hartford as he collaborates with members of both parties to get things done. For example, the recent Blue Envelope program implemented by the Newtown PD to avoid confusion when a person on the autism spectrum or with another condition is approached during a traffic stop was created by a bipartisan bill Rep Bolinsky cosponsored, putting common sense solutions over partisan squabbles. This is what we need to move our state forward.
This November, I hope you will join me in again supporting Representative Bolinsky and his effective, high quality representation we are fortunate to have in Hartford.
While I am a member of the Legislative Council, my comments are my own and not on behalf of the Legislative Council.
Optimistically,
