To the Editor:

So, does Newtown really need another 6-7 store retail shopping center? With yet another pizza restaurant, liquor store, coffee shop, and nail salon? We certainly don’t need it on the corner of Route 34 and Toddy Hill Road. If you think we do need this, and you think this location is the best spot for it, then you’ve never been in the daily traffic that is part of life in this area.

There, supposedly, is a roadway improvement project coming, that we are told will take care of this traffic, a project we’ve been hearing about for over 20 years. I have lived in this area for 30 years, so I have been waiting 2/3 of this time for this traffic improvement. Given that we’ve been waiting over 20 years for this, why are we now so certain that it will actually be coming anytime soon? In fact, it has already been delayed at least one more year.

While I am completely against putting a retail center in this area, why don’t we at least wait and see if this road improvement project becomes reality and if it actually improves the traffic enough to add something that has the potential to clog the traffic again.
