Occupation: I’m a registered nurse at Danbury Hospital, in the cardiac step-down unit.

Family: I have a huge family. My husband, Joseph, is a psychiatrist at Danbury Hospital. We have five children, two who are still at home. Haley is in the sixth grade at Reed Intermediate School, and Jordan is in the fourth grade at Sandy Hook School. My three older children are Jennifer, who is an Iraq veteran living in Orlando, Fla., Tasha, a sophomore at St John University in New York and studying social work, and Tyrone, who is studying prenursing at Lake County College in Chicago. We have a grandson, Ethan, who is 4 years old.

Pets: We have a dog, Midnight. He is an English cocker spaniel and is 1 year old, and still hyper.

How long have you lived in Newtown? We are going on two years that we have been here. We moved from New York. I moved from Haiti to the US when I was 16 years old.

What do you like to do in your free time? I read a lot, and I exercise. I belong to Club NewFit and go at least three days a week. I walk at Huntington Park and up at Fairfield Hills. I love to go to plays, too.

Do you have a favorite book? Right now, I’m into a book I am absolutely loving, called The Places In Between by Rory Stewart. It’s an amazing book. It is about a man who walked across Afghanistan, and showed me that poverty and corruption are not only in Haiti. It taught me about Muslims and Islamics, and how we don’t understand it.

What plays have you seen lately? I saw Lil’s 90th Birthday recently at the Long Wharf Theater. It was really good. It is about a retired woman and her husband. They lose all of their money to an elder scam, an he has Alzheimer’s. That really affected me, because you see a lot in the hospital, how Alzheimer’s affects families.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? I would love to visit the Grand Canyon. I’m trying to organize that for our family.

What is the best thing about Newtown? The library. The people there are very friendly and helpful. They have so many programs, for children as well as adults. My daughters have taken so many programs there.

Do you have a hero? My friend, Julie Stern. She is so open and she opens up my world. She has arranged for me to meet so many people in town. And that’s what made it home here. She has embraced my children and introduced them to her grandchildren, and even had them to “Camp Gramma” in the summer.

Do you have a personal philosophy? Be true to yourself. We are our worst critics. Know when you do the right thing and when you have strayed, also. Be a better person, and more tolerant.

Do you have a guilty pleasure? I watch soap operas. I love All My Children. Sometimes I do mute it…. But I love to see the women all dressed up. No one ever wears jeans, not even the kids. And chocolate, dark chocolate is my other guilty pleasure. I like to buy a big chunk of it at Big Y and then break it up to eat it a little at a time.
