NHS Students Prepare For Spring Production Of ‘Gypsy’

By Eliza Hallabeck

Newtown High School students have been busy preparing for the spring production of Gypsy, which comes to the stage in the NHS auditorium March 11 through 14.

Based on the memoirs of Gypsy Rose Lee, with book by Arthur Laurents and music and lyrics by Jule Styne and Stephen Sondheim, respectively, Gypsy tells the story of a demanding stage mother’s efforts to raise two daughters to be performers. Some of the well-known songs from the show are “Everything’s Coming Up Roses,” “Some People,” and “All I Need Is The Girl.”

The show will be presented at 7:30 pm Thursday through Sunday. Tickets cost $10 each, and are available in advance by calling 203- 426-0678 or emailing GypsyTix@aol.com.

More information on the show is also available at www.nhschoral.com.

At Monday’s rehearsal, sophomore Maddie Dorso said she thinks the play is coming together well.

“It’s a show for people of all ages,” Maddie said. “It really tells a story for everybody.”
