Nighthawk Grapplers Compete In State Open
Newtown High School wrestlers Cory Fisher and Mac Morlock represented the Nighthawks in the State Open at New Haven Athletic Center on February 25 and 26 â Fisher in the 171-pound weight division, and Morlock at 285. In the consolation bracket, Fisher then lost a 5-4 decision to Matthew Tulba of Waterford.
Fisher lost his first match when he was pinned by eventual sixth-place finisher Aaron Wing of Griswold in 1:16. Morlock was pinned in his first bout by eventual second-place grappler Christopher Valenti, of Bethel, in 2:19. Morlock then lost a 5-0 decision to Mark Thompkins of Middletown in the consolation bracket.
The Open featured the top grapplers who placed in the stateâs class meets the week before.
