Girls 7th

Darien 41, Newtown 40 (OT) – With no time left on the clock, Darien hit a foul shot to vanquish Newtown. Kate Bowen led all scorers with 13 points while Sara Kelley and Jennifer Daily added 11 and eight points, respectively. Daily was outstanding defensively as she picked off numerous Darien passes as a result of Newtown’s full court press. Brittany Wiberg and Carolyn Fagan rebounded well while Ally Modzelewski played well defensively.

Newtown 45, New Canaan 35 – Sara Kelley netted 22 points (4-of-4 from the line) to lead all scorers and spark Newtown to a 45-35 victory over New Canaan. Jennifer Daily also had a great day offensively as she scored 15 points to lead Newtown. Nicole Elias and Kaitlin Marsden rebounded well for Newtown while Stephanie Suhoza and Meghan Bridges played well defensively.

Boys 5th

Monroe 38, Newtown 26 – Trey Trudell, Taylor Steimle and Austin Bonadio led the offense in a loss to Monroe.  Michael Lord and Sean Ross anchored the defense.

Newtown 32, Redding 18 – Daniel Gallagher, Michael Greenwood, and Dominick Fedak had strong offensive games and led Newtown to the win.  Josh Barrett and Kevin LeBlanc played terrific defense.

Darien 40, Newtown 10 – Daniel Gallagher and Michael Lord played well offensively while defensively Trey Trudell, Taylor Steimle, and Sean Ross had solid efforts.

IN-HOUSE

Junior Girls

Pacers 24, Crazy Cats 21 – Natalie Villa scored six points with nine rebounds and four assists to lead the Pacers to the win. Annie Fletcher added six points as Stephanie Spath and Ines Hutchinson had fine floor games. For the Cats, Laura Newberry scored six points while Lyndsey Burns had six steals and five rebounds. Sam Lockhart dished off six assists.

Junior Boys

Wildcats 54, Heat 36 – Jake DeVellis poured in 38 points to lead the Wildcats to the win. Ethan Johnson added eight points as Mike Lago and Keith Reszoly played well on D. For the Heat, John Aminti had 10 points while John Fracker and Eric Thornberg had eight assists.

Bullets 31, Rockets 29 – Rob O’Donnell popped in 11 points to lift the Bullets past the Rockets. Evan Kennedy, Kevin O’Connell and Charlie LoBosco played well. For the Rockets, Ryan Goodridge scored 12 points and David Kopyscinski added eight. Kevin Carney and Ben Miles played well.

Nuggets 38, Hawkeyes 33 – Matt Narel scored 17 points and Evan Triantifilidis dished off eight assists to lead the Nuggets. Harrison Gillis had a monster block and Chris Page grabbed six rebounds. For the Hawkeyes, Kyle McNamara scored 10 points while Jake Wolf and Dan Clement played well.

Yellowjackets 47, Nighthawks 24 – Brian Reszoly canned 16 points and Ed White added 12 more to lead the ‘Jackets to the win. Michael Poeltl and Dylan Kelleher had strong performances. For the ‘Hawks, Rob Brautigam and Paul Murphy combined for 15 points while Zach Gordon and Michael Shevlin anchored the D.

Celtics 47, Huskies 45 – Joe Selezan poured in 24 points as the Celtics nipped the Huskies. Trevor Todd canned nine points and Ben Mahony dished off seven assists. Mike McDonald and Brian Kuruc played well on defense. For the Huskies, Joe Cappiello canned 25 points. Adam Buccino scored five points, Zack Dolughy dished off four assists, Zack Dent made three steals and JR Shine grabbed eight rebounds.

Eagles 29, Knicks 28 – Keith McGrath scored 17 points and Michael Coates added six more to lead the Eagles to the win. Anthony Gruce dished off six assists while Ryan Murphy made five steals and Chris Murphy grabbed eight rebounds. For the Knicks, Kenton Lord, Michael Whitley-Rodriguez and Jeff Spencer played well.

Bobcats 55, Knicks 36 – Dan Quinn scored 17 points and Ryan Lasher grabbed 20 rebounds to lead the Bobcats past the Knicks. Kyle Pickle scored 12 points, Jeff Selezan dished off 10 assists, and Ben Murphy made two steals. For the Knicks, Michael Whitley-Rodriguez, Kenton Lord and Martin Basso played well.

Intermediate Boys

Nighthawks 36, Eagles 24 – Henry Helgren scored 10 points to lead the Nighthawks to the win. Ryan Pasko, Dylan Kelley and Kyle Harrington played well. For the Eagles, Oliver Powers popped in eight points as Mason West (10 blocks) and Mac Morlock played well.

Knicks 30, Trailblazers 19 – John Wlasuk and Tom Anderau combined for 21 points to power the Knicks. Erik Samuelson, Luke Sherwood and Ashinar Tyaganajan had fine floor games. For the ‘Blazers, Will Northrup scored eight points while Matt Sharpe and Brendan McNamara had strong performances.

Vikings 43, Celtics 19 – Alex Saviano scored 17 points and Kevin Phillips added 12 more to lead the Vikings to the win. Tom Murphy dished off six assists, Austin Ekstrom made four steals and Tom Diluffo grabbed six rebounds. For the Celtics, Christian Sayegh and Caleb Benore had solid efforts.

Bullets 45, Wildcats 29 – Sam Kerr scored 18 points and Derek Krewson grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the Bullets. Greg Campbell dished off seven assists and Joe Pieretti made six steals. For the ‘Cats, Collin Morris canned eight points while Dylan Berger and Chris Haylon (seven points) played well.

Huskies 32, Regulators 14 – Tom Coscia scored 10 points and Kyle Wilcox grabbed five rebounds to lift the Huskies past the Regulators. Keenan Bennett and Adam Stadalius played well. For the Regulators, Shaun Mangold scored eight points, Mike Ruddy made eight steals, and Nick Dinelli was strong off the glass.

Vipers 41, Mavericks 40 – Ryan Powers poured in 18 points as the Vipers clipped the Mavericks. Tim Calavana and Jeffrey Grasso had fine floor games. For the Mavs, Tom Cappoziello scored 12 points as Ryan Crowell and Yanni Koutmos combined for 12 more.

Midget Boys

Newtown Celtics versus Grizzlies – Michael Scharfenberg, Tyler Gibney, Stephen Walsh and Michael Daubert led the Celtics as Brendan Peterson, Patrick Afriyie, Shay DeMarche, Jack Lago and Greg Horne led the Grizzlies.

Huskies versus Blue Lightning – Jim Parker, Eric Fiore, Joe Davis and Nate Steinbrey played well for the Huskies as Chris Carroll, Walt Depuy, Matt Rosse and Otto Kerler powered the Lightning.

Blue Devils versus Nighthawks – Scott Schmidt, Jordan Sock and Matt White had solid floor games for the Devils while Greg LaDestro, Taylor Varga, Adam Harrison and Daniel Hamar paced the ‘Hawks.

Squarepants versus Orange Crush – Tomas Nazer, Tim Kelly, Don Sun and Doug Miller anchored the ‘Pants as Charlie Helgren, Mitchell Stewart, Justin Henry and Matt Lindell played well for the Crush.
