Fasting For World Hunger
Fasting For World Hunger
Members of the youth fellowship group at the United Methodist Church in Sandy Hook, joined by some of their friends, took part in a 30-hour âfamineâ last week to raise money for World Vision, an organization that fights hunger worldwide.
World Vision is a Christian relief and development organization dedicated to helping children and their communities by tackling the causes of poverty.
âNearly 29,000 children die every day from hunger,â said Ronalee Tefft, one of the youth group leaders. âOne in ten children die before the age of 5.â
The 18 youth who participated in World Visionâs 30-Hour Famine fundraiser were allowed just water and juice to stay hydrated during the event. They played board games, watched movies, and had Bible study during the fast.
The youth played Penny War games to raise money and also got pledges. More than $1,600 has been raised so far, according to Mrs Tefft.
