Worth Consideration
Worth Consideration
To the Editor:
Right now the town government is considering two major expenditures: the renovation of the Fairfield Hills campus and expansion or rebuilding of Newtown High School. I wonder if the town has ever considered moving Newtown High School to Fairfield Hills, thus combining the cost of renovating the hospital and building or expanding the high school. Afterwards the old high school site could be sold to residential or commercial developers in order to offset some of the costs.
The advantages of such a plan seem obvious to me and the campus layout would be no different than any college or prep school campus. Additionally a campus layout makes it much easier to adjust to an expanding town population by simply building new buildings rather than adding awkward additions to the already oversized and mazelike buildings that so many of our stateâs high schools have become. If this option has not already been explored perhaps it should be, even if only on a preliminary basis to see if any money could be saved.
