Police Issue $2,471 In Trucking Fines At Checkpoints

During a commercial vehicle inspection project conducted at various spots around town on February 24, a six-person inspection crew handed out $2,471 in fines for trucking violations, according to police Sergeant Christopher Vanghele.

Two town police officers worked with four state troopers at several locations between 6 am and 2 pm to check for violations, the sergeant said.

Police issued errant truckers 15 infraction tickets for a total of 19 violations. One truck was taken out of service for its violations.

Town police regularly conduct such enforcement projects with the state police truck enforcement squad.

Police overtime funding for town participation in the project stems from a $2,500 law enforcement grant received by the town. Other grant funds will be used for increased radar patrols and for equipment to be used at sobriety checkpoints.
