Occupation: I’m retired after working 29 years for the Board of Education. Currently I have been serving as the Chore Service Coordinator for the Friends of Newtown Seniors (FONS). It is a volunteer position with what I call “feel good” rewards. FONS Chore Services helps Newtown seniors by helping them remain home safely, independently, and comfortably. I have a list of wonderful volunteers and also maintain a vetted, for hire, list of professionals that come highly recommended.

Family: I’ve been with my wonderful husband, Dave, for 20 years. I have two grown children: Sarah, who lives in Danbury, and Russell, who lives in North Carolina, with my amazing grandson Robert, who is 16. Dave also has three children.

Pets: We have an adorable Lhasapoo – that’s a Lhasa apso and poodle mix — named Eli. We also have a sun conure named Jupiter.

How long have you lived in Newtown? I have lived in Newtown for 38 years and moved here for the school system.

What do you like to do in your free time? I just got a new motorcycle. This one actually has training wheels — it’s a V Star motorcycle with two big wheels on the side. I don’t have to worry about balancing anymore. I also love to ride on the back of my husband’s Harley and travel the back roads through the mountains. We like to kayak, too.

What is your favorite book? I don’t have a favorite book, but when I do read, I love researching antiques.

What is your favorite travel destination? In the past I have traveled from Bar Harbor, Maine, all the way down to the Florida Keys. I’ve also gone to Antigua and Bermuda. But I can’t say I have just one favorite.

What is the best part about Newtown? The people and volunteers. I have met so many people eager to help in so many ways through FONS Chore Services. My motto has always been, “There are no strangers in this world, only friends you haven’t met.”

What organizations are you part of in Newtown? In addition to volunteering with FONS and Cornerstone, I belong to Women in Newtown, Newtown Community Center, and Newtown Senior Center.

If you could spend the day with one person, who would you choose and why? My parents. I’d want to ask them about their lives and find out more about them. My mom came from a family of nine. My father was an only child after his sister passed when he was young. He was a medic in World War II and never talked about it. It would be nice to look at pictures and have them share about what was going on in them.

Who is your favorite musical artist? wCeline Dion. I like music with meaning.

What is your favorite food? Lobster! I love seafood.

What is the greatest piece of advice you have ever been given? Someone in the school system told me, “Never stop being an advocate for what you truly believe in.” I’ll never forget that.

What is something you cannot live without? My husband, Dave.

What is your proudest accomplishment? My children, who I adore. Also, being able to help the seniors of Newtown through the chore service.
