On Tuesday, February 27, a Sandy Hook woman, whom police arrested on multiple charges stemming from a robbery the preceding day at Union Savings Bank, pleaded not guilty to all charges at her arraignment in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury.

In court, Kathlynn A. Achilles, 26, of Erin Lane pleaded not guilty to second-degree robbery, third-degree larceny, second-degree threatening, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Achilles will be represented in the case by a public defender, a court official said.

Later on February 27, Achilles posted $25,000 bail through a bondsman for a March 20 court appearance. Initially, police had set bail for Achilles at $100,000, but a bail commissioner reduced that amount to $25,000 before the arraignment.

Police said that at 1:45 pm on Monday, February 26, they received a call from Union Savings Bank at 1-A Commerce Road, informing them that the bank had just been robbed by a white woman who was wearing a brown, hooded sweatshirt and white pants.

The woman had passed a note to a teller instructing the teller to "give her all the money," police said. There were no injuries in the incident.

Many town police converged on the area in seeking the woman who had fled from the bank on foot. The woman, whom police later identified as Achilles, entered woods near the bank and made her way to the area behind the St Rose Church campus, police said.

When considering the proximity of St Rose School at 40 Church Hill Road, Hawley Elementary School at 29 Church Hill Road, and Newtown Middle School at 11 Queen Street, police had all three schools, which were occupied by students, temporarily enter a precautionary "lock-in mode" for security reasons until Achilles was captured.

Following a southward chase through the woods, police quickly captured Achilles in the area near the loop road at the eastern end of Grand Place, a residential subdivision. Police said they used their German shepherd Aris during the incident.

Police said that when Achilles was caught, she possessed a small pocket knife. A plastic bag containing approximately $2,700 and a brown hooded sweatshirt was found lying nearby, police said.

Police said they compared video surveillance images from the bank with Achilles' appearance to confirm that she was the suspect in the bank robbery.

The last bank robbery in Newtown occurred in August 2017, at the Bank of America at 6 Queen Street. The next most recent bank robbery had occurred more than six years earlier, in April 2011, at Chase Bank at 30 Church Hill Road.
