Subaru vs Subaru

About 2:49 pm on February 17, motorist Jason Taweh, 16, of Newtown, who was driving a 2016 Subaru Legacy, was preparing to exit a commercial driveway at 64 Church Hill Road, as motorist Pavlo Honcharenko, 18, of Sandy Hook, was driving a 2010 Subaru Impreza eastward on Church Hill Road, police said.

As the Legacy attempted to exit the driveway, the two vehicles collided, police said. There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Taweh for failure to grant the right of way at a private driveway.

Sandy Hook Collision

Police report a two-vehicle collision on eastbound Berkshire Road at its intersection with Great Quarter Road about 2 pm on February 18.

In that incident, motorist Matthew Simmeth, 20, of Monroe, who was driving a 2011 Audi Q-5 SUV, struck the rear end of a 2016 Mazda CX-5 SUV driven by Peter Kerns, 22, of Sandy Hook, according to police. There were no injuries. Police report they gave Simmeth an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Toyota vs Lightpost

Motorist Achu Achiri, 21, of Randolph, Mass., who was driving a 2002 Toyota Camry sedan eastward on Interstate 84, near Exit 11, about 4:50 pm on February 20, lost control of the auto, after which it traveled off the right road shoulder and struck a lightpost, state police said.

There were no injuries. Achiri received an infraction for failure to maintain the travel lane.

Criminal Impersonation

State police said they received several calls about 10:20 am on February 21 concerning a white Ford Crown Victoria sedan with New York marker plates which had red/blue emergency lights on its roof flashing as it drove through heavy traffic in a construction area on eastbound Interstate 84 between Exits 9 and 10.

State police said they stopped the Ford on Church Hill Road to investigate. Motorist Douglas Litvinoff, 56, of Red Hook, N.Y., said that he had bought the used police car about a year ago, adding that he had accidentally hit a switch that turned on its emergency roof lights, state police said.

State police said they charged Litvinoff with criminal impersonation. He was released on $5,000 bail for a March 2 court appearance.

Buick vs Hyundai

At about 11:10 am on February 21, motorist Christine Greve, 68, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2007 Hyundai Tucson SUV, was waiting for a red traffic signal on eastbound Church Hill Road, at its intersection with Commerce Road, when eastbound motorist Alexander Hess, 17, of Newtown, who was driving a 2002 Buick Park Avenue sedan, struck the rear end of the Hyundai, police said.

There were no injuries. Hess received a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police said.

Sugar Street Crash

At about 7:08 am on February 23, motorist Luciana DeOliveira, 41, of Newtown, was waiting for a red traffic signal in a vehicle on eastbound Sugar Street, near South Main Street, when eastbound motorist Kyle O'Connor, 25, of Newtown, drove into the rear end of the vehicle driven by DeOliveira, police said.

DeOliveira reported pain, but refused medical attention, police said. O'Connor received a written warning for following too closely, police said.

Intersection Accident

Police report that at about 3:38 pm on February 24, a two-vehicle accident took place at the intersection of Wasserman Way and Nunnawauk Road.

The collision involved motorist Jeffrey Keeler, 48, of Milford, who was driving a 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan minivan, and motorist Danielle Jarrin, 37, of Oxford, who was driving a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck, police report.

There were no injuries. Police report they issued Keeler a written warning for passing on the right.

Sugar Street Incident

Police report an offset head-on collision on Sugar Street, near its intersection with Head O' Meadow Road, about 7:34 pm on February 24.

That accident involved motorist Devin Marsh, 17, of Newtown, who was driving a 2003 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, and motorist Raymond Ormsbee, 54, of Newtown who was driving a 2016 Jeep Wrangler SUV, according to police.

Police said that Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Jeep passenger Donna Blake, 54, of Newtown to Danbury Hospital to be treated for injuries. Police said they issued Marsh an infraction for failure to keep to the right on a curve, distracted driving, failure to carry a driver's license, and failure to carry an automotive insurance identification card.

Drugs, Vandalism

Police report they responded to the area near the intersection of Parmalee Hill Road and Daniels Hill Road at about 8 pm on February 24, after receiving a report concerning two people walking along the railroad tracks there with flashlights and making noise near the spot where Parmalee Hill Road crosses above the train tracks. Police allege that two men spray-painted graffiti onto railroad bridge abutments there.

Police said that after investigating, they charged Jacob Enriquez, 22, of Newtown, with simple trespassing on railroad property, third-degree damaging railroad property, four counts of possession of a controlled substance, three counts of failure to keep a controlled substance in its original container, and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police said they also charged John Carroll, 20, of Brookfield, with simple trespassing on railroad property, third-degree damaging railroad property, possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police said they released both men on written promises to appear in court on March 7 to answer the charges.

DUI Incident

Police report they observed a motorist committing multiple traffic violations while traveling westward on Sugar Street at about 1:36 am on February 25, so they stopped the driver on Scudder Road to investigate.

Police report they charged motorist Laura Prescott Morgan, 41, of Bethel with driving under the influence, failure to maintain the travel lane, failure to keep to the right, and driving an unregistered vehicle. After processing, police released Morgan on $500 nonsurety bail for a March 10 court appearance.

Improper Turn On Queen Street

Motorist Amanda Sage, 27, of Ansonia, who was driving a 2003 Toyota Corolla sedan northward on Queen Street about 8:49 am on February 25, traveled off the right road shoulder and struck a curbside residential mailbox at 69 Queen Street, police report.

There were no injuries. Sage received an infraction for making an improper turn, police said.

Evading, Improper Turn

Police said that motorist Joseph Choniski, 29, of Brookfield was driving a 2003 Mercedes-Benz ML-350 SUV southward on Berkshire Road and then attempted to turn right onto High Rock Road early on the morning of February 25, but the vehicle turned widely and went off the left road shoulder, striking a stop sign and some rocks.

The SUV carried four passengers. There were no injuries. Police said that Choniski did not stop or call police after the collision.

After police apprehended Choniski, they charged him with evading responsibility and with making an improper turn. Choniski was released for a March 10 court appearance, police said.

Warrant On Woodbury Man

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Jamie Szabo, 42, of Woodbury, went to the police station and turned himself over to police about 7:45 am on February 27, after which he was charged with second-degree failure to appear in court, police said. The original charges, to which Szabo has pleaded not guilty, involve multiple alleged motor vehicle violations.

Police held Szabo on $1,000 bail for an appearance that day in Danbury Superior Court. In court, Szabo pleaded not guilty to the failure to appear charge. On February 28, Szabo was being held on $500 bail at the Bridgeport Correctional Center for a March 6 court appearance.

Forgery

After learning that police held a warrant for her arrest, Linda Rozmus, 61, of Redding went to the police station on the afternoon of February 27 and was charged with second-degree forgery and with criminal attempt to possess a controlled substance, police said.

Police allege that Rozmus forged a drug prescription in January in seeking to illegally obtain an antianxiety medication from an area pharmacy. After processing the charges, police released Rozmus on a written promise to appear on March 12 in state Superior Court in Danbury.

Failure To Appear

Police report they served an arrest warrant against Theresa Donovan, 27, of Ridgefield, at her residence, early on the morning of March 1, charging her with first-degree failure to appear in court. That charge stems from a criminal case that occurred in Newtown in October 2015.

Donovan has pleaded not guilty to all five charges pending against her in that case. Police said Donovan posted $400 bail and was released for a March 15 appearance in state Superior Court in Danbury.
