Decorated War Hero
Anthony Bezok, 87, of Stamford died February 27, at Courtland Gardens Nursing Home in Stamford. He was born in Cleveland Ohio, September 6, 1919, the son of Agnes and Nicholas Zifko. He was the husband of the late Edith (Peggy) Thompson Bezok.
He is survived by his son Anthony Bezok and his wife, Roberta, of Newtown; his sister and brother-in-law Frances and John Shawluk of Stamford; his son-in-law Robert D. Allred of Norwalk; five grandchildren, Tracey, Tricia, Matthew, Michael, and Ivy; and six great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Irene (Mrs Robert D.) Allred, of Norwalk.
Educated in Pennsylvania schools, Mr Bezok spent 12 years in the Army and Coast Guard. Prior to his enlistment, he played semiprofessional baseball for the Cleveland Indians. He was a decorated war hero, for being in the Battle of Normandy, having received a commendation from the French government. He worked as a correction officer with the State of Connecticut, and retired from Connecticut Plumbing Supply Company.
Mr Bezok was an avid world traveler and a champion horseshoe player. He also raised prize Bantam show chickens that he and his son showed. He will be most remembered for his amazing number tricks and games. He had a passion for history and world geography.
Friends may call at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk, Friday, March 2, from 4 to 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 3, at 10 am, at Saint Philip Church, 1 Father Conlon Place, Norwalk, with Father Michael Boccaccio officiating. Interment will follow the services at St Johnâs cemetery in Darien.
