Newbury Church To Celebrate Its 33rd Anniversary
On Sunday, March 12, Newbury Congregational Church of Brookfield will be celebrating the 33rd year of its founding. A history has been prepared by Marilyn Ober, a founding member, outlining the basic desire to remain an autonomous congregation at the time of the formation of the United Church of Christ.
Exactly 33 years ago, on March 12, 1967, a gathering of 49 members and 22 children formed the original founding members, joined later in the year by 24 more adults and 26 more children.
It purchased the present property during the first year, meeting in what is now the parsonage. Seven years later in 1974 the present Meeting House was constructed and dedicated. The history says in part: âby the Grace of God, the fruits of hard work are showing. With a dedicated minister, a strong music program, and a growing Church School, Newbury Congregational Church continues to go forward.â
The Rev. Carl E. Mesnig, minister, said special recognition of this anniversary will be included in the 11 am worship service, Sunday, March 12.
