William Robert Katrinak

World War II Veteran

William Robert Katrinak, 82, of Avon, previously of Trumbull and Shelton, died February 21. He was the husband of the late Ann (Erst) Katrinak. He was born in Bridgeport, May 2, 1925, to Andrew and Mary (Ondek) Katrinak.

Mr Katrinak is survived by his son, Robert William Katrinak, and daughter-in-law, Karen, of Sandy Hook, and daughter, Karen Ann Katrinak, and son-in-law, Ronald Matheney, of Grand Forks, N.D.; three grandsons, Robert Thomas Katrinak of Sandy Hook, and Aidan and Liam Matheney, both of Grand Forks, N.D.; his loving partner, Elinor Dolnier of Avon, and her daughters and their families; and several nieces and nephews and their children. Mr Katrinak was predeceased by two brothers, Raymond and Andrew Katrinak; and five sisters, Emma Tomac, Helen Caselli, Eleanor Thornberg, Margaret Medgensis, and an infant twin sister.

He grew up on the east side of Bridgeport. Mr Katrinak was a World War II US Army veteran, serving as a dental assistant in a military hospital in France. After completing his military service, he earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Bridgeport. Mr. Katrinak was employed as an accountant with Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford and later as a financial manager with Yale University in New Haven. After his retirement, he enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends.

Funeral services were held February 26 in the Pistey Funeral Home, Stratford, and in Holy Name of Jesus Church, Stratford. Interment followed in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull.
