Since its 1977 debut in Los Angeles, the ensemble has been in demand for appearances on concert series across North America. The quartet has performed in many of the great halls of Europe, including Hamburgâs Musikhalle and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Its commissions have contributed significantly to the repertoire for piano quartet, and its recordings have won wide acclaim. The quartet has been a popular guest on Minnesota Public Radioâs âSt Paul Sundayâ and New Yorkâs âLive from WNCN,â and has been featured at the Bermuda and Tucson Festivals and the Eugene and Carmel Bach Festivals.
Newtown Friends of Music are pleased to announce a performance by the Los Angeles Piano Quartet featuring Steven Doane (cello), Michi Wiancko (violin), Katherine Murdock (viola) and Xak Bjerken (piano) at Edmond Town Hall on Sunday, March 9, at 3 pm.
The Los Angeles Piano Quartet has appeared for Newtown Friends of Music on two previous occasions and has received rave reviews from concert attendees and reviewers alike. For their program this season they have prepared a piano quartet by the Czech master Antonin Dvorak and a fantasy quartet by the British composer Frank Bridge. The program will conclude with Quartet in G minor, Opus 25 by Johannes Brahms.
Tickets are $18 for adults and $16 for seniors. Students in grades K-12 are admitted free of charge when accompanied by a ticket-holding adult. Advance reservations are strongly recommended.
The box office will open one hour before the start of the concert. Parking is free behind Edmond Town Hall and the facility is handicap accessible. Following the performance there will be an informal reception to meet the artists in the town hall lobby.
