Kenneth H. Kost

Back Stroke Champion

Kenneth H. Kost, age 86, of Sarasota, Fla., a native of Bridgeport, died on Tuesday, February 26. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Marjorie; a daughter, Kimberly Klein of Newtown; two sons, Kevin of Osprey, Fla., and David of Nashua, N.H.; and five grandchildren. His trademark was a rose in his lapel.

Mr owned his own insurance agency for 40 years. He was a graduate of Bassick High School, where he was Connecticut State Back Stroke Champion for three years in a row. He attended Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio. He was former badminton champion and one of the top squash players in Connecticut.

Mr Kost was also a member of the YMCA in Westport, Yacht Club in Black Rock, and Southport Racket Club. He was formerly of Easton, where he served as police commissioner.

A memorial gathering will be held in Sarasota on Sunday, March 2, from 4 to 7 pm at the Toale Brothers Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, 40 North Orange Avenue. A memorial service will be held in Easton at a later date.
