State police report they arrested an inmate following an incident at Garner Correctional Institution, the state’s high-security prison at 50 Nunnawauk Road.

State police said they responded to Garner about 9:30 pm February 18, after inmate Zaharias Savvidis, 23, would not take his medication and then punched the face of a male correction officer who was trying to make Savvidis take the medication.

The correction officer was injured in the incident, state police said.

State police charged Savvidis with third degree assault and with assault on a peace officer. He was scheduled to be arraigned on the charges on February 19 in Danbury Superior Court.

Savvidis serving a two-year sentence in Garner on a third-degree robbery conviction.
