'Laurel Girls State' Needs Participants
âLaurel Girls Stateâ Needs Participants
The American Legion Auxiliary, Newtown Unit #202, is looking to sponsor a high school junior at this yearâs âLaurel Girls Stateâ to be held at Western Connecticut State University from June.
Laurel Girls State is a mythical state in which young women having just completed their junior year in high schools across the state spend one week learning about state and local government. The delegates meet with state and local officials, then take this knowledge and put it into practice through their own bills and elections. Our citizens live in three mythical towns and two mythical cities. The week ends with the election of their state officials and two senators, who will represent Connecticut at âGirls Nationâ in Washington, D.C.
There is no cost to delegate. If interested, contact Alice Saxton at 426-7728 for an interview. Reservations must be in by April.
