The Newtown High School Marching Band and Guard will host its annual Winter Extravaganza Home Show Saturday, March 8, in the gymnasium of Newtown High School, 12 Berkshire Road.

Doors open for the Winter Percussion competition at noon, with Newtown’s percussion ensemble performing at 2:21 pm, immediately followed by senior recognition and awards.

The Winter Guard competition opens its doors at 3:30 pm, featuring performances by Newtown’s Junior Varsity team at 9:05 pm and Varsity team at 9:14 pm, concluding with another round of senior recognition and awards.

Admission for each show is $15 for adults and $8 for seniors aged 65+ and children under 10. Tickets can be purchased online at gofan.co/event/3192226; they will also be available at the door.

Food, beverages, and baked goods will be available for purchase throughout the event, as well as additional activities such as a 50/50 raffle and Air and Candy Grams.

The event features two separate competitions, showcasing 10 indoor winter percussion units and 33 indoor winter guard units. The percussion competition will include a performance by the Newtown Winter Percussion Ensemble, while the guard competition will feature performances by both the Junior Varsity and Varsity Newtown Winter Guards.

This has been an exciting season, highlighted by the Newtown Winter Percussion and JV Winter Guard teams each achieving second-place finishes at their respective competitions last weekend. The annual home event serves as an opportunity for community members to experience inspiring performances while supporting local musicians and performers.
