Vote Shows Their True Colors

To the Editor:

I’m wiping the tears from my eyes. I just learned that 44 US senators voted in favor of infanticide, including Connecticut’s US Senators Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy.

In the wake of New York Governor Cuomo’s celebration over New York’s new law allowing abortions up to the moment of birth and a Virginia bill in-process allowing the same, a bill was drafted in the US Senate named the “Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act,” S.130. Here’s the meat of the bill — this is what our senators objected to:

“(1) If an abortion results in the live birth of an infant, the infant is a legal person for all purposes under the laws of the United States and entitled to all the protections of such laws.

“(2) Any infant born alive after an abortion or within a hospital, clinic, or other facility has the same claim to the protection of the law that would arise for any newborn or for any person who comes to a hospital, clinic, or other facility for screening and treatment or otherwise becomes a patient within its care.”

The bill would have guaranteed medical care to babies who survived an abortion attempt and prohibited medical practitioners from just leaving these babies to die.

Senators Blumenthal and Murphy and 42 of their colleagues effectively killed this lifesaving bill when they voted against cloture on the motion to proceed for S.130.

Regardless of which side of the abortion debate you’re on, this should make you sick. If we refuse to protect the lives of living, breathing, helpless babies, the most vulnerable in our society, where is our society headed?

Remember this when Senators Blumenthal and Murphy are up for reelection (2022 for Blumenthal and 2024 for Murphy).

Here are the names of six more cold-hearted senators who voted in favor of infanticide, and who happen to be 2020 presidential candidates: Cory Booker, Kirsten Gillibrand, Kamala Harris, Amy Klobuchar, Bernie Sanders, and Elizabeth Warren.

Beware, they’ve shown their true colors — they reject the most basic human decency.

Sincerely,

Cathy Reiss
