Creating Safe Passageways In The Borough

To the Editor:

Over the past two decades, the Borough of Newtown has spend over $300,000 on the development and replacement of sidewalks within its limits. Much of this work has been realized on our historic Main Street where there has been a focus on providing a sound passageway for all pedestrians. As this goal is achieved, our board has been requested by its residents to consider new areas within the Borough that need sidewalks.

Last October, the Board of Burgesses created an ad hoc committee to explore expansion of sidewalks within its border. During this time, our committee has identified 16 potential projects. Through a set of criteria that includes pedestrian safety, total expense, and environmental impact, each section of sidewalk has been assigned a value. The time has come to share our findings with the public and receive feedback.

A special meeting has been scheduled for Thursday, March 5, 2020, at 7 pm, in the Alexandria Room of the Edmond Town Hall. We welcome all Newtown residents to join us. Help us continue our efforts to make our Borough the best it can be.

Thank you.

Jay Maher, Warden
