Jack Godfrey, shot-put competitor at Newtown High School, placed third with a throw of 48-foot-11 at the state open at New Haven's Floyd Little Athletic Center on February 20. With his performance, Godfrey will represent the Nighthawks at the New England Regional Indoor Track & Field Championships in Boston during the weekend of February 27-28.

Also in the open, Newtown's Cole Terry placed 12th in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.46, Sarah Mawdsley ran the 3200 and placed 13th with a time of 11:41.65, and Lauren Russo competed in the pole vault event and had a finals effort of 9 feet.
