Dissa Wins 1000 Meter Title And Relay Sets School Record
Newtown High School's track teams put forth a tremendous effort in the State Open, at Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven on February 18.
The Nighthawks had an individual champion as Soheib Dissa won the 1000 meter race in a time of 2:34.41. And the girls brought home a school record-setting time as the Sprint Medley Relay team of Ella Hall, Rachael Albrecht, Hannah Snayd, and Riley Powers came in fourth in 4:20.54.
Powers was third in the 600 with a time of 1:37.57, qualifying for the New England Championships in the process. Caleb Smith finished seventh in the high jump competition, clearing the bar at 6 feet. Oliver Guzy took 12th in the long jump with a leap of 19-09.25.
