Squirts Skate In Tourney

Newtown hockey players Jack Hanley and Ethan Cox helped the Western Connecticut Youth Hockey Squirt A team battle in the Springfield Pics Presidents’ Day Tournament at the Olympia Ice Center in West Springfield, Mass this past weekend.

The Western Connecticut Squirts took on some of the region’s top youth teams, starting with the Boston Advantage and Portland Pirates on Saturday.

The Squirts lost both games, but didn’t let their opponents walk away with shutouts.

In the final game on Monday, the Squirts played the host Springfield Pics, to whom they’d lost twice this season. This time was different, and the Squirts capped off a difficult tournament with an 8-5 victory. Cox, a Reed Intermediate School fifth-grader, netted a goal in the win.
