The Joy Of Cancer Survival

DANBURY — The Community Cancer Collaborative (CCC) invites cancer survivors, caregivers, physicians, nurses, family members, and friends to submit an original piece of art that symbolize their personal feelings about cancer for display at the “Joy of Survival — Expressions of the Cancer Journey through Art” exhibit.

The art show will take place at The Praxair Cancer Center at Danbury Hospital. There will be an opening night reception on Thursday, June 2, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. The show will then remain on view until June 30, daily from 8 am until 8 pm.

The staff from The Praxair Cancer Center at Danbury Hospital, American Cancer Society, and Ann’s Place/The Home of I Can hope to display not only drawings or paintings, but other forms of artwork as well, including photography, poetry, handwork or sculpture, to name a few examples. The idea for this event came from people with cancer in the community.

The monthlong exhibit will display artwork created by cancer survivors and others who are touched by cancer as an expression of their journey. This is not a fundraising event nor will the artwork be for sale.

Artwork descriptions will be included with each piece of art that is submitted, and more than one piece of art per person will be accepted as space allows. All artwork must be framed, ready to hang or placed in a binder for display.

To obtain “Joy of Survival” participation entry forms, call Lillian Monaghan, Praxair Cancer Center at 797-7898, or Patrice Hough, also at the Praxair Cancer Center, at 797-7893. Deadline to submit entry forms is Monday, March 21.
