Sharing Joan’s Hope
To the Editor:
I read with interest your fine article about Joan Crick [“Joan Crick Shares Her Center Of Town Experiences,” The Newtown Bee, February 14]. I first came to Newtown in 1982 and had the pleasure to know Joan and even to work with her a few times. I cannot say enough good things about her. She was always very dedicated, smart and professional in her work and fun in casual situations.
I share her hope that Newtown will retain some of its historic places, as these make Newtown special. Development will continue, but it can be done in a way that does not make Newtown look like “Anywhere USA.” Sandy Hook Village is a prime example. Many US towns and cities have learned the lesson about the value of retaining their history, as it makes them interesting and special.
