Karen S. Barbarie
On September 22, 1965, a special soul made its way to this earth and on February 21, 2020, that soul left and became a part of each and every person who loved her.
Karen was definitely one-of-a-kind, who lit up any room that she entered. Her smile was infectious and her laugh warmed your heart. Karen fought a brief, yet courageous, battle with cancer that unfortunately she did not win. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit continues on in so many people.
Karen was born in Long Island but grew up in the Danbury area. Her mother, Linda Redding, had already been waiting on the other side for her. She is survived by her father, David Redding, and wife, Pat. Karen and her brother, David, went to school in New Fairfield. This is where she met her husband, Thomas Barbarie, they wed on November 14, 1993.
Her three children loved and envied her strong spirit, she was the rock of the family. James and wife, Jamie; Dean; and Hailey will carry on Karen’s strength each and every day. She especially loved her role as Grandma to her grandson, TJ, and soon-to-be second grandchild. She will be missed by all of her nieces and nephews that loved her. Her lifelong friends, Diana Browne, Kim Cronin, and others, will always cherish many years of memories with her. She is also leaving behind her dog, Otis, who never left her side and brought her so much joy.
In lieu of flowers or donations, we ask that you take a moment to hug your loved ones and live life to the fullest with the same spunk and fire as Karen did. Life is short and time waits for no one. “I hope you dance…”
Services will be held at Green Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 25, from 4 to 8 pm. All are welcome.
