Attention young musicians, poets, singers, magicians, et al: the monthly Saturday Night Open Mic will return Saturday, March 7, from 7:30 to 9:30 pm, in The Great Room at Newtown Congregational Church, 14 West Street.

The featured band this month is Free Block, a high school quartet from Kent.

The Open Mic is for high school and middle school youth. Performers grades 5-6 are also welcome. Microphones, keyboard, guitar amp and more will be available. A welcoming atmosphere and an enthusiastic all-ages audience makes this a great night every time.

Suggested donation is $1. Adult family members are invited to bring a simple drink or snack to share, such as baked goods, chips, pretzels, etc. Coffee and tea will be available. Sign up starts at 7:15 pm.

Doors will be open by 7 pm if any performers wish to come early and wait to sign up.

There is space for about twenty performers so the time limit per spot is about five minutes. Sign-up is first come, first serve. Youth under grade six must have a parent or guardian present.

This event is sponsored Jim Allyn’s Music Workshop and hosted by Newtown Congregational Church, with videotaping provided by Newtown High School Tech Club.

For more information call 203-270-9659.
