Rollover Crash

Rollover Crash

At about 7:55 am on February 16, during the morning rush, a rollover accident occurred on South Main Street near its intersection with Ethan Allen Rd.

Police said that motorist Mary Henry, 59, of 15 Appleblossom Lane, who was driving a 2009 Chrysler 300-C sedan, was waiting at a stop sign at the western end of Ethan Allen Road in preparing to make a left turn onto southbound South Main Street.

At that time, motorist William Jacobs, 26, of 17-A Botsford Hill Road was driving a 1994 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck northward on South Main Street, according to police.

As the Chrysler was attempting to make the left turn, the two vehicles collided, after which the Chevrolet then traveled onto an embankment along the right road shoulder and rolled over, police said.

 There were no injuries. Henry received an infraction for failure to obey a stop sign, police said.

Warrant

Police report that they charged Dewitt Ferguson, 34, of Bridgeport on a rearrest warrant on the morning of February 10 in connection with a past motor vehicle incident.

Police charged Ferguson with second-degree failure to appear in court, driving with a suspended license, and with driving with improper rear marker plate illumination.

On July 9, 2008, a judge ordered that Ferguson be rearrested because he had not appeared in court that day on motor vehicle charges stemming from a May 14, 2008, incident on South Main Street.

Ferguson turned himself over to police on the warrant at the police station on February 10. Ferguson had been in Pennsylvania since 2008 and had not been available for the warrant to be served against him until now, police said.

Following processing, police released Ferguson on $1,000 bail for a February 29 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Copper Theft

Police report that sometime during the weekend of February 11–12, someone stole some copper drainage downspouts from a house on Taunton Lake Road. The house is located in the area of the Newtown Fish & Game Club’s boat launch at the northern end of the lake.

Police received a report on the crime on the morning of February 13.

To help police solve the theft, they are asking anyone with information on the crime to contact them at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone, 203-426-5841.

Lawn Ornament

On the afternoon of February 16, police received a report that someone had stolen a “lawn jockey” ornament from a residential property on Mt Pleasant Road. The property is on the section of Mt Pleasant Road lying between its intersections with Diamond Drive and Blackman Road.

The theft occurred sometime between January 14 and February 16, police said. Police are asking anyone with knowledge of the crime to contact Officer William Hull at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841. Officer Hull’s e-mail address is william.hull@newtown-ct.gov.

 

Nissan Into Tree

A one-vehicle accident occurred about 8:30 am on February 15 on Alberts Hill Road, near the parking area for Upper Paugussett State Forest, adjacent to Lake Lillinonah.

Police report that motorist Anthony Charles Mascolo, 33, of New Milford was driving a 2004 Nissan sedan eastward when he lost control of the auto on a curve on wet, slippery pavement, resulting in the Nissan traveling off the right side of the street and striking a tree.

Mascolo was not injured. Police report they issued him a written warning for making a restricted turn, and also gave him an infraction for driving an unregistered vehicle.

Intersection Accident

Two vehicles collided at the intersection of Main Street and Schoolhouse Hill Road about 8:50 pm on February 15.

Motorist Mark Fintz, 53, of 53 Walnut Tree Hill Road was driving a 2002 Honda Civic sedan southward on Main Street and slowing in order to make a left turn onto eastbound Schoolhouse Hill Road, police said.

Motorist Ray Coleman, 47, of Trumbull, who was driving a 1995 Ford Explorer SUV southward on Main Street, then struck the rear end of the Honda, according to police.

There were no injuries. Coleman received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police said.

Mt Pleasant Road

Police report that motorist Ramon Sierra, 38, of Bridgeport was driving a 2000 Chrysler Town & Country minivan eastward on Mt Pleasant Road at about 10:13 pm on February 16, and then signaled to make a right turn onto Tory Lane, but did not make that turn. Sierra continued driving on Mt Pleasant Road without shutting off the right-turn signal, according to police.

Police said they then stopped Sierra to investigate and charged him with failure return a turn signal to the off position and also with driving with a suspended license. Sierra was scheduled to appear in court to answer the charges.

Queen Street Speed

Police said they spotted motorist Evan Smith 29, of Danbury driving a 2001 Honda Civic at 44 miles per hour in a 25-mph zone northward on Queen Street at about 8:20 pm on February 18.

After stopping Smith near 5 Queen Street, police charged him with traveling too fast and with driving with a suspended license.

Smith was released on $400 bail for a March 6 court appearance, police said.

Plaza Collision

A two-vehicle collision occurred at about 8:15 pm on February 17 in the parking lot at Sand Hill Plaza at 228 South Main Street, police said.

In that incident, the unknown driver of a silver minivan struck the passenger side of a blue Honda Civic, police said. The minivan then left the scene of the crash. Police said that the minivan would have collision damage to its driver-side front end.

Police ask anyone with knowledge of the crash to contact them at 203-426-5841.

BMW Vs Trees

Motorist Louise Begley, 63, of 25 Oak Ridge Drive was driving a 2006 BMW X-5 SUV southward near 70 Hattertown Road about 1:13 pm on February 15, when the vehicle went off the east side of the street and struck a tree, police said. The SUV then traveled across the road and went off its west side, striking more trees, police said.

Begley was transported to the hospital for a medical evaluation, police said. Police said Begley received a written warning for failure to drive to the right.

SUV Vs SUV

At about 5 pm on February 17, motorist Leonard Lampel, 48, of 23 Old Green Road was driving a 2011 Honda CRV SUV westward on Berkshire Road and then stopped at the driveway entrance to Newtown High School and was waiting for eastbound traffic to clear, police said.

Westbound motorist Connor Pineau, 18, of 47 Waterview Drive, who was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Blazer SUV, then struck the rear end of the Honda, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Pineau for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Church Hill Road

Motorist Peter Parzuchowski, 74, of Danbury was driving a 1999 Buick LeSabre sedan westward near 66 Church Hill Road about 12:49 pm on February 17, as motorist Donald Evans, 76, of 14 Osborne Hill Road was driving a 2002 Buick Rendezvous SUV eastward on Church Hill Road in the right-turn-only lane, police said.

The LeSabre then attempted to make a left turn into the parking lot of the Blue Colony Diner, but collided with the Rendezvous, police said.

There were no injuries. Parzuchowski received a written warning for failure to grant the right of way, police said.

Intersection Crash

An accident involving two pickup trucks happened about 3:36 pm on February 15 at the intersection of Mile Hill Road and Mile Hill Road South.

Police said that motorist John Fellin, 18, of 10 Appleblossom Lane, who was driving a 2005 Ford F-250 pickup truck eastward on Mile Hill Road, was attempting to make a right turn onto southbound Mile Hill Road South, and then applied the brakes, but the Ford skidded into a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck that was waiting at a stop sign on northbound Mile Hill Road South. Robert Nordman, 17, of 22 Taunton Lake Road was driving the Chevrolet, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they gave Fellin a written warning for failure to drive to the right.

Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Christopher Johnston, 24, of New Milford turned himself over to police at the police station on the afternoon of February 20 and was charged with failure to respond to an infraction.

Police said that last August 23, they had issued Johnston an infraction on charges of possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Johnston, however, did not respond to that infraction ticket, which is payable by mail, so police received an arrest warrant against him, police said.

After processing on February 20, police released Johnston on $185 bail for a March 6 court appearance.

Four Moving Violations

At about 11:15 pm on February 9, motorist Henry Erickson, 22, of 2 Kelly Court, who was driving a 1998 Acura coupe eastward on Button Shop Road, attempted to make a right turn onto southbound Little Brook Lane, but the vehicle went out of control and struck a tree on the east side of Little Brook Lane, police said.

Following the accident, Erickson was transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police have said.

Following their investigation into the crash, police said that they issued Erickson an infraction on charges of traveling too fast for conditions, failure to obey a stop sign, failure to wear a seatbelt, and failure to carry  a vehicle registration.

 

Queen/Church Hill

Police report that at about 1:01 pm on February 21, motorist John Voket, 50, of Waterbury was driving a 1996 Jeep Cherokee SUV northward on Queen Street behind northbound motorist Susan Jackson, 41, of 2 Possum Ridge Road, who was driving a 2004 Land Rover Discovery SUV.

Both vehicles then made proper left turns onto westbound Church Hill Road, but the Land Rover stopped for a pedestrian who was in a crosswalk on Church Hill Road, resulting in the Jeep striking the rear end of the Land Rover, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Voket for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
