One Of Newtown's Finest
One Of Newtownâs Finest
To the Editor:
We are in Florida and just learned about [the death of] Alex Aitchison. Frankly it took my breath away.
It is so sad. He gave so much and asked so little. He accomplished so much and yet always wanted to do more. I will never forget the night at the UN when he was inducted into the Eastern Tennis Association Hall of Fame. It was such a privilege to be there. Finally some real recognition for his contributions to the tennis world.
Alex, of course, transformed tennis in Newtown as only he could, and we should always be grateful we had him there for a while, but not long enough.
Let us not forget that there was a power behind the throne... Marjorie! What a team! Two of the nicest people I have ever met. A pleasure to work with and a pleasure to play with.
A void has opened up that I suspect will never be filled except with great memories. Newtown and the world has lost one of its finest citizens.
