This nondenominational Christian church meets Sundays, 10:30 am–1 pm, for Morning Worship, with fellowship immediately following the service. Additional programs and services include: The Lion of Judah Reach Out Ministry, which helps men and women and teens transition from prison life to society; shelter for battered and abused women; housing for ex-offenders and battered women. Lion of Judah Reach Out Ministry also provides counseling and clothing for teens and adults. A drill team for teens, including musical instruments, is also avail-able for teens. Volunteers welcome. Newtown Bible Church is a Bible-centered New Testament church that focuses on exalting God through the clear exposition of His inspired word (2 Tim. 3:16). This style of worship consists of simple chants sung repeatedly, rich silence, glowing candlelight, and prayers of intercession. All are encouraged to participate as the spirit moves them, whether that be in song, prayer, or quiet meditation. The service is preceded by a Lenten teaching from 6 to 7:15 pm in the Undercroft, titled “Straight Talk About Simple, Just Living.”

The topic of the 9 and 11 am worship services Sunday, February 26 will feature a program on capital punishment at both services with guest speaker Dr George Kain, an associate professor in the Division of Justice and Law Administration at Western Connecticut State University. He will discuss current efforts to abolish the death penalty in Connecticut and describe the prospects for Connecticut to become the 16th state to abolish the death penalty in this session of the legislature. Visitors are welcome to attend the program and invited to stay for refreshments.
