The Lions defeated Brookfield, 68-53, last week to win the annual Jockey Hollow Tournament for the second year in a row. The Lions advanced to the tournament final with a convincing 53-40 win over Bethel and with both of those victories the locals concluded the 2005-06 season at 7-6.
In the win over Bethel, George Zaruba scored 19 points on 9-of-10 shooting from the floor while Ralph Sergiovanni added 11 points. The Lions broke open the game with a full court press and aggressive play from Kyle Kromberg, Peter Young, Casey Tenney and Jeff DiNicola. Ben Mahony and Kyle OâConnor also had solid games.
In the tournament final, the locals shot 11-of-14 from the foul line in the fourth quarter to hold off Brookfield. Zaruba finished with 20 points and Sergiovanni finished with 19 and both were named to the All-Tournament Team (Zaruba was named Tournament MVP).
Young tossed in 11 points while Kromberg grabbed eight rebounds. DiNicola and Tenney displayed tough D at the top of the key.
