Chestnut Hill Road

While traveling eastward on Chestnut Hill Road about 2 pm February 15 , motorist Peter Danenberg, 17, of Shelton, who was driving a 1994 Chrysler LeBaron, applied his brakes to stop at a  stop sign at the intersection of Chestnut Hill Road and Chestnut Knoll Drive, but skidded on some sand in the road, police report.

The Chrysler skidded into the westbound lane and then struck a tree along the road’s westbound shoulder, police said. The vehicle also knocked over a stop sign.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Danenberg to Danbury Hospital to be checked for head pain, police said. Police issued Danenberg an infraction for failure to obey a stop sign.

Main Street DUI

Police report they stopped motorist Jason S. Catino, 22, of 24 Greenleaf Farms Road on Main Street at about 2:22 am February 19, after they saw him driving a 2002 Volkswagen Passat erratically westward on Church Hill Road and southward on Main Street.

Police said Catino failed field sobriety testing, after which they charged him with driving under the influence, failure to drive to the right, and failure to drive in the established lane.

After processing the case, police released Catino on $50 bail for a March 7 arraignment in Danbury Superior Court.

Moving Violations

Police said that at about 2:20 am February 19, they stopped motorist Thomas O’Leary, 25, of Danbury on Church Hill Road for driving a 2002 Dodge Neon that had a nonfunctioning headlamp.

After investigating, police charged O’Leary with failure to have a functioning headlamp and with driving while under suspension.

Police released O’Leary on $150 bail for a March 6 court appearance.

DUI Arrest

At about 2:44 am February 18, police spotted motorist Jaine B. Nobre, Jr, 25, of Danbury driving a 1996 Ford Contour erratically on Wasserman Way, near the Exit 11 on-ramp for Interstate 84.

Police said they stopped Nobre on the on-ramp to investigate. Police said Nobre failed field sobriety testing.

Police charged Nobre with driving under the influence, failure to obey a stop sign, failure to obey a traffic signal, failure to drive in the established lane, and failure to grant the right of way.

After arrest processing, police released Nobre on $250 bail for a March 3 court arraignment.

 

Chrysler Vs Camry

Police report a two-vehicle accident about 5:30 pm February 14 on Church Hill Road, in front of the driveway entrance to the Blue Colony Diner.

Motorist Robert Pokorak, 74, of Ridgefield, who was driving a 1999 Chrysler Town & Country minivan westward on Church Hill Road, wanted to make a left turn into the diner’s parking lot, police report.

An unidentified eastbound driver then stopped in traffic and waved for Pokorak to make the left turn in front of him to allow the Chrysler to enter the diner parking lot, police said.

As Pokorak was making that left turn, the Chrysler collided with a 1996 Toyota Camry traveling in an eastbound right-turn-only lane for Exit 10 of Interstate 84. Motorist Dorothy McKain-Lyons, 41, of Danbury was driving  the Toyota, police said.

Pokorak told police that he did not see the Toyota approaching. There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Pokorak for failure to grant the right of way.

Hummer Accident

About 2:38 pm February 18, motorist Armando Aversa, 71, of Monroe was driving a 1993 Chevrolet Lumina southward on South Main Street, when he encountered a southbound noncontact vehicle in front of him, which was preparing to make a left turn onto eastbound Button Shop Road, police said.

Aversa then attempted to enter the right southbound lane there to get past the noncontact vehicle, but sideswiped a southbound 2005 Hummer H-2 driven by Holly Ann Corello, 39, of Easton, police said 

There were no injuries. Aversa received a verbal warning for making an unsafe lane change.

Drug Charges

State police report they stopped motorist Gerard Little, 26, of Waterbury for having very darkly tinted automobile windows while he was on westbound Interstate 84, near Exit 11, at about 5:30 pm February 19.

State police added that after stopping the vehicle, they noticed the scent of burning marijuana, so they called in a police dog to help investigate. The dog located 58 grams of marijuana, state police said.

State police charged Little with driving vehicle with very darkly tinted windows without having a decal for such equipment from the state Department of Motor Vehicles, and also with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana. State police charged vehicle passenger Phillip Pack, 24, of Danbury with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana.

Both men were scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court.

SUV Rollover

About 1:06 am February 17, motorist Keith F. Nelson, II, 23, of Waterbury was driving a 1994 Nissan Pathfinder sport-utility vehicle on the Exit 11 off-ramp of eastbound Interstate 84, when he encountered a sharp curve in the road to the right, state police said.

Nelson could not control the Nissan and the vehicle, which was carrying two passengers, rolled over, state police said. There were no injuries. State police said Nelson was traveling too fast for conditions.

Hawleyville DUI

While traveling westward on Mt Pleasant Road about 12:30 am February 18, police observed an eastbound vehicle that was traveling faster than the speed limit, so police turned around to follow it.

Police said they saw the vehicle cross over the road’s center line and then make a left turn onto Hawleyville Road, where they stopped it to investigate.

Police said motorist Carl Edgett, 25, of Naugatuck failed field sobriety tests, after which they charged him with driving under the influence, failure to drive to the right, and failure to wear a seatbelt.

After arrest processing, Edgett posted $50 bail and was released for a March 3 arraignment in Danbury Superior Court.

Honda Key

On February 19, a car key for a Honda automobile, which was attached to a Courtney Honda key chain, was found in the parking lot near the TJ Maxx store at Sand Hill Plaza at 228 South Main Street, police report.

Police are holding the key for safekeeping and ask the owner to contact them to claim the key. Sergeant Darlene Froehlich is in charge of found items, telephone 426-5841.

Saab Vs Toyota

About 4 pm February 20, motorist Laura Kreps, 47, of Ridgefield, who was driving 2004 Saab 9-3 sedan, stopped behind a stopped 2004 Toyota Highlander driven by Amy Nicholson, 40, of 56 Parmalee Hill Road, police said. Both vehicles were waiting at a red traffic signal on Main Street in front of the police station.

When the traffic signal turned green, the Saab hit the rear end of the Toyota, police said.

Ambulance volunteers transported Nicholson to Danbury Hospital on a report of neck pain, police said. Police issued Kreps a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Jeep Off Road

About 11:30 am February 20, motorist Sarah Egan, 24, of Danbury was driving a 2004 Jeep Liberty westward on Route 34 in the vicinity of Old Mill Road.

As Egan was negotiating a curve in the road, she lost control of the Jeep, which crossed into the eastbound lane, struck a snowbank, turned sideways,  hit a tree stump and then flipped, landing in a ditch, police report.

Ambulance volunteers transported Egan to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. Police verbally warned Egan for failure to drive to the right.

Audi Into Wall

Motorist Ellen Resnick, 60, of Weston was driving a 2002 Audi A-4 sedan southward on Poverty Hollow Road and then made a right turn onto Hopewell Road at about 11:30 pm February 11, police said.

At the time, it was snowing and road conditions were slippery, resulting in the Audi entering a skid that caused it to slide off the right side of the road and strike a stone wall, police said. Resnick was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Sandy Hook Center

Police report a two-car accident in Sandy Hook Center about 4:15 pm February 15.

Motorist Stephanie Godfrey, 21, of 6 Wilderness West, who was driving  a 2001 Saab 9-5 sedan northward on Washington Avenue, was making a left turn onto westbound Church Hill Road, as motorist Nancy Brady, 80, of 56 Mt Pleasant Road, who was driving a 1996 Buick Regal southward on Glen Road,  was making a right turn onto westbound Church Hill Road, police said.

As the two vehicles were turning onto Church Hill Road, they collided. Brady received a wrist injury in the accident, police said. Police issued Godfrey a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

Honda Vs Honda

About 3:30 pm February 16, motorist Judy DeBartolo, 56, of Bethel, who was driving a 2000 Honda CRV, stopped behind motorist Elizabeth Morrissey, 41, of 3 Spring Road, who was driving a 2002 Honda Odyssey that was stopped at a stop sign on Boggs Hill Road at its intersection with Sugar Street, police said.

The CRV then struck the Odyssey from behind, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued DeBartolo a written warning for following too closely.

DUI Charge

On February 22, police charged Alexandre Debrantes, 18, of 13 Sugar Street with driving under the influence, illegal possession of alcohol, making a restricted turn, speeding, and littering.

After processing the arrest, police released Debrantes on $100 bail for a March 8 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Details on the incident that led to the arrest were not available from police before deadline.
