Another Charged With Alcohol Violation
Police have charged a second person in connection with a late-night December party at a Bennetts Bridge Road home that was attended by approximately 30 underage youths who were drinking alcohol.
Police said that after learning they held a warrant for his arrest, an unidentified 15-year-old boy turned himself over to them this week, and was charged with providing alcohol to a minor and also with risk of injury to a minor.
After processing the arrest, police released the youth into the custody of his father on a written promise to appear March 13 in Danbury Juvenile Court. The identities of people under age 18 who are arrested by police are shielded from public disclosure by state law.
On February 14, Janice Balmforth, 49, of 44-A Bennetts Bridge Road, turned herself over to police and was charged with one count of delivery of alcohol to a minor in connection with the party at her home.
The oldest youths present at the December 26 party were age 17, with the typical age of those present being 15, according to police. The legal age for alcohol consumption is 21.
As a result of excessive drinking, one unidentified 15-year-old girl at the party suffered alcohol poisoning, police have said. That girl was transported to Danbury Hospital for medical treatment, after which she recovered from her highly intoxicated condition, according to police.
Balmforth was scheduled to appear on February 23 in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charge.
