DUI Incident

At about 1:44 am on February 19, police report they spotted motorist Manuel Inamagua, 39, of Danbury driving a Subaru Forester SUV eastward on Wasserman Way, near Trades Lane, when the Subaru crossed the roadway's center lines.

Police said they stopped the Subaru to investigate, after which they charged Inamagua with driving under the influence, failure to drive in the proper lane, and driving a vehicle when the registration/license is refused, suspended or revoked.

Inamagua was released on $100 bail for a March 8 court appearance.

Warrant

Newtown police said they arrested Keeva Underhill, 39, of Bridgeport on a warrant at the police station late on the night of February 18. Underhill was charged with failure to respond to a payable violation connection with a past incident in Westport, Newtown police said. Underhill was released on $500 bail for a March 8 court appearance.

Snowy Road

Police said that at about 7:45 pm on February 17 amid snowy conditions, motorist Leslie Pacheco-Garcia, 22, of Stratford, who was driving a 2011 Toyota Venza eastward on Mt Pleasant Road, near Johnnie Cake Lane, struck the rear end of an eastbound 2013 Mercedes-Benz GL-350 SUV, which had slowed due to conditions. Jin Zhou, 36, of Newtown was driving the Mercedes, police report.

After the initial impact, the Toyota entered the opposite lane and struck a westbound vehicle that did not stop, police said. Police said they gave Pacheco-Garcia a misdemeanor summons on charges of traveling too fast for conditions, following too closely, driving with a suspended registration, and failure to carry an automotive insurance card. Pacheco-Garcia was released on a written promise to appear in court on March 2.

Snowy Road

At about 8:18 pm on February 17, motorist Wayne Simms, 29, of Waterbury was driving a 2017 Kia Forte northward on a snow-covered Hawleyville Road, about 150 feet north of its intersection with Currituck Road, when while negotiating a curve in the road, the auto traveled off the right road shoulder and struck a utility pole, police report.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded and checked Simms, releasing him at the scene, according to police. Police said they issued Simms an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.

High Speed DUI

State police report that they clocked motorist Tracy Bell, 48, of Weston driving 94 miles per hour in a posted 65-mph zone on Interstate 84 at about 12:05 pm on February 17, so they stopped her to investigate.

After investigating, state police arrested Bell, charging her with driving under the influence and with reckless driving. Following arrest processing, state police released Bell on $500 nonsurety bail for a March 7 arraignment on the charges in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury.

Botsford Crash

A two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of South Main Street, Meadowbrook Road, and Botsford Hill Road about 4:18 pm on February 16.

Motorist Gordon Johnson, 66 of Newtown, who was driving a 2005 Ford F-150 pickup truck northward on South Main Street, attempted to turn left to enter westbound Meadowbrook Road, police said. At that time, motorist Terry Frischkorn, 26, of Ansonia was driving a vehicle southward on South Main Street, police said.

The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Johnson received an infarction for failure to grant the right of way, police report.

South Main Crash

At about 11:20 pm on February 16, motorist Brian Vandeweerdt, 24, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2003 Ford F-350 pickup truck, attempted to exit a driveway at 71 South Main Street, but in doing so, the Ford collided with a northbound 2005 Kia Spectra driven by Owen Billing, 64, of Danbury, police said.

Police said that Billing and Ford passenger Alexandria Dewolfe, 22, of Sandy Hook were transported to Danbury Hospital by Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps for treatment of injuries. Police report that Vandeweerdt received an infraction for failure to grant the right of way.

Four Charges

Police said they learned at about 7:35 pm on February 15 that a motor vehicle accident had occurred at the intersection of South Main Street and Country Club Road, after which the driver who caused the crash drove away from the scene.

Police said they found the driver in question on Sugar Street and investigated, after which they arrested motorist John McCafferty, 52, of Newtown on charges of evading responsibility, failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign, driving with a suspended license, and driving an unregistered vehicle.

Following arrest processing, police released McCafferty on $100 bail for a March 2 arraignment on the charges in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury.

Flagpole Intersection

A two-vehicle collision occurred at the Main Street flagpole intersection about 7:37 pm on February 15.

Motorist Clifford Banthin, 87, of Redding who was driving a 2011 Toyota RAV-4 SUV westward on Church Hill Road, stopped at a stop sign, as motorist Mikesha Atkinson, 24, of Bridgeport was driving a 2015 Nissan Rogue SUV northward on Main Street, police said.

The Toyota then attempted to make a left turn onto southbound Main Street, resulting in the two vehicles colliding, police said.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps treated both drivers at the scene and both drivers refused ambulance transport, police said. Banthin received an infraction for failure to grant the right of way, according to police.

Freightliner Vs VW

State police report that at about 12:37 pm on February 15, a 2017 Freightliner truck driven by Ikbal Singh, 51, of Bakersfield, Calif., and a 2015 Volkswagen Jetta driven by Gail Downing, 67,of Danbury sideswiped each other on westbound Interstate 84, near Exit 10.

There were no injuries. There was insufficient evidence to establish fault, so no enforcement was taken, according to state police.

Spin Out

Motorist Krzysztof Darowski, 54, of Danbury, who was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Impala sedan eastward on Interstate 84, about 1,000 feet east of the Exit 9 on-ramp, at about 5:18 am on February 14, lost control of the vehicle, entered the right road shoulder, struck some guardrailing and then spun out before coming into contact with a concrete barrier, state police said.

There were no injuries. Darowski received an infraction for failure to maintain the travel lane, traveling too fast for conditions, and driving without a license, state police said.

Pearl Street

About 7:37 am on February 14, motorist Annalise Saraceni, 18, of Newtown was driving a 1995 Honda CR-V SUV westward on Pearl Street, when the auto went out of control, traveled off the left road shoulder and struck a utility company's electrical control box, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Saraceni for traveling too fast for conditions.

Arrested On Warrant

Police said that at about 9 pm on February 14, they stopped motorist Dennis Pelletier, 40, of Bethel for a traffic violation that occurred on Hattertown Road, near the Monroe town line.

Police said that they learned that Pelletier had a warrant pending against him. Police said they charged Pelletier second-degree failure to appear in court in connection with a past Norwalk incident. Pelletier was released on $500 bail for February 23 appearance in Norwalk Superior Court.

Failure To Appear

After learning that police held a warrant for her arrest, Celina Falis, 32, of Newtown went to the police station about 4:30 pm on February 12 and was arrested on a charge of first-degree failure to appear in court in connection with a pending criminal charge lodged by police in December 2016, according to police.

Police had reported that on December 16, 2016, they arrested Falis on a warrant of a charge of intentional cruelty to persons in connection with a past incident. Falis has pleaded not guilty to that felony charge in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury.

After arrest processing on February 12, police released Falis on $40,000 bail for a February 23 court appearance.

Nine Violations

Police report that on the night of February 12, they served an arrest warrant against Corey Shaw, 28, of Newtown in connection with a December 26 accident that occurred at Wasserman Way's intersection with the Exit 11 ramps for Interstate 84.

Police transported Shaw to the police station where they arrested him on charges of evading responsibility, failure to have automotive insurance, improper use of a marker plate/license/registration, reckless driving, failure to grant the right of way, driving an unregistered vehicle, failure to display marker plates, making an unsafe movement from a stopped position, and driving with unsafe tires.

Police have reported that the crash occurred when Shaw, who was driving a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV, attempted to make a left turn, but collided with a 2007 Toyota Sienna minivan driven by a Danbury woman. After that crash, Southbury Ambulance transported Shaw to Danbury Hospital to be medically evaluated, police have said.

Following arrest processing on February 12, police released Shaw on $500 bail for a February 27 court appaearance.

DUI Warrant

Police report that on February 12, they arrested Steven Vantassell, 29, of Danbury on a warrant, charging him with driving under the influence, traveling unreasonably fast, and making a restricted turn. The charges stem from an early morning vehicular incident that occurred on December 9 near the intersection of Botsford Hill Road and High Bridge Road, according to police.

After arrest processing, police held Vantassell on $500 bail for a court arraignment on the charges on February 13.

Warrant

At about 11:30 pm on February 11, police stopped motorist Racquel Clarke, 32, of Bridgeport to investigate on Toddy Hill Road, near Clearview Drive. Police said a records check indicated that there was a pending arrest warrant for Clarke.

Newtown police arrested Clarke, charging her with failure to respond to an infraction in connection with a past Naugatuck incident. Police released Clarke on $1,000 bail for a March 1 appearance in Connecticut Superior Court in Waterbury.

Illinois Man

An Illinois man, who was driving a 2016 Hyundai Accent eastward on Berkshire Road at about 4:37 pm on February 10, stopped at a red traffic signal at that road's intersection with Toddy Hill Road, police said.

An unknown motorist driving an unknown vehicle eastward then struck the rear end of the Hyundai and drove away from the scene, traveling southward on Toddy Hill Road, police said. The Illinois man was not injured.

Police are investigating.

Breach Of Peace

Police said they responded to the Blue Colony Diner at 66 Church Hill Road at about 7:20 pm on February 9, after learning that an unwanted person there was acting erratically and was possibly intoxicated.

Police said they found that the man in question had caused a disturbance at the busy restaurant. Police said that Jeffry McCabe, 61, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., was uncooperative with them and was shouting profanities.

McCabe was arrested on a charge of second-degree breach of peace, after which police released him on a written promise to appear in court on February 21.

Cemetery Gate

Police report that sometime during the daytime on Friday, February 9, someone who was driving a motor vehicle damaged the cemetery gate at St Rose Cemetery on Cherry Street in Sandy Hook. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact them at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841.

Evading Responsibility 

Police report that motorist Laura Bachinsky, 24, of Danbury was involved in a motor vehicle accident with another motorist when Bachinsky was exiting Interstate 84 at Exit 11 on the night of February 8.

The motorist whose vehicle was damaged followed Bachinsky through Sandy Hook to the dead-end Country Squire Road, where police were called to investigate. Police charged Bachinsky with evading responsibility, failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, driving with a suspended license, and failure to have automotive insurance.

Bachinsky was released on $100 bail for a February 21 court appearance, according to police.
