Warrup’s Farm Is Ready For Maple Season

WEST REDDING — Maple syrup season has begun at Warrup’s Farm. Visitors can discover the natural magic of maple syrup making at Warrup’s Farm’s Sugar House during the first three weekends in March, from 11 am to 5 pm each day. Farmer Bill Hill will be on hand to demonstrate the process in the log-style sugar house. The sugaring operation is part of the organic farm year at the old-fashioned New England homestead farm.

Children and adults alike will enjoy watching the sap trickle into the pan and watching billows of steam evaporating from the half-cooked syrup. One taste of the “liquid gold” and one is convinced that the whole time-consuming process is worthwhile. Visitors may also purchase syrup, and visit the barnyard animals.

Warrup’s Farm is on John Read Road, off Route 107 midway between Redding Center and Putnam State Park, opposite Redding Country Club.

Demonstrations are free. Special weekday school and civic group tours can be arranged. Wear mud boots and dress warmly. For more information, call 203/938-9403.
