Trash On The Big Screen
Trash On The Big Screen
To the Editor,
On Thursday February 17, 2000, my husband and I attended the Edmund Town Hall Theater. The show playing was Being John Malkovich. We left the theater after less than one hour in total disgust. I was under the impression that the Edmund Town Hall Theaterâs purpose was to offer films for family viewing at a reasonable price. The movie that was showing that evening was certainly not for family audiences. I know it had an âRâ rating. I have viewed âRâ rated films before, but never to this level of trash. In less than one hour we were shown promiscuity, marital infidelity and lesbianism. At the point where the two women went after each other, we exited the theater. The lack of moral values in this film certainly was evident even from the beginning, when the puppeteer was punched out by an irate father for the type of show he was presenting.
I donât know who is in charge of choosing and prescreening the films shown in the theater, but I feel that the standards have fallen to an all time low. If charging only $2 per person allows them to only rent films of such low quality, I suggest that they raise the price and rent some better films that are of a family-oriented nature.
I hope the Edmund Town Hall Theater will consider the interests of their customers when choosing the films to be shown in the future.
