HARTFORD â State Representative Pat Shea, R-Monroe and Newtown, today announced that four scholarships are available for individuals entering graduate study for the first time in the fall of 2000.
The scholarships, which amount to $2,500 each, will be awarded to persons pursuing advanced degrees in political science, public administration, public policy or a related field.
Sprint Corporation, in coordination with the Womenâs Network of the National Conference of State legislatures, will provide the scholarship funds.
The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of scholastic achievement, written statements by the applicant, community/school involvement and letters of recommendation. Applications and supporting documentation are due no later than June 20, 2000, and are available through Sprintâs office at 800/796-3464. Applications for the scholarships and additional information about the program can also be obtained by calling Rep. Sheaâs office at 800/842-1423.
âThe Sprint and NCSL Womenâs Network graduate scholarships offer an extraordinary opportunity for persons entering graduate school for the first time,â Rep. Shea said. âThese scholarships will help make graduate study and careers in public service a reality for four deserving students.â
âSprint is to be commended for sponsoring these scholarships. Earning a graduate degree requires study and sacrifice. Sprintâs initiative has helped make graduate study a reality for many well-qualified students who might otherwise not have been able to afford it,â Rep. Shea said.
Rep. Shea is a member of the National Conference of State Legislaturesâ Womenâs Network, which is coordinating the scholarship award with Sprint. Rep. Shea represents Monroe and Newtown and serves on the General Assemblyâs Education, Human Services and Transportation committees.
