Jammed In The Middle Of The Sandwich Generation
Jammed In The Middle Of The Sandwich Generation
WOODBURY â If you have growing children and aging parents, you are a member of the Sandwich Generation. An educational and humorous program on the Sandwich Generation will be presented by Dr Charles Atkins, a practicing psychiatrist and published author, on Saturday, March 4 at 7 pm at the home of Abby Greenwald and Andrew Peklo at The Mill at Pomperaug, 29 Pomperaug Road in Woodbury.
This program is sponsored by the Federations: Jewish Communities of Western CT. It is a cooperative venture of Brownstein Jewish Family Service (BJFS), the Federationâs Young Adult Division (YAD) and the Young Leadership Class.
According to Debby Horowitz, BJFS program director, âWe hear from more and more women and men who tell us there just arenât enough hours in a day to get everything done. Work, parenting and helping out with elderly parents pile on demands and stress that are often more than anyone can juggle. People tell us they want to get off the treadmill, add some order and balance to their lives and find time for themselves.â
These are exactly the issues that Dr Atkins will be discussing at this program. A resident of Woodbury, Dr Atkins is director of psychiatry at Waterbury Hospital and is a member of the Yale clinical faculty. He is the author of two popular novels, The Portrait and Risk Factor. Dr Atkins writes for American Medical News and has published dozens of short stories and essays. He has appeared on radio and television and has been featured in such newspapers as The New York Times. Dr Atkins is a dynamic speaker who lectures extensively on topics related to the moral development of children, the importance of humor, stress in the workplace, the mind-body connection and overcoming depression.
