Homemaker â Home Health Aide Training Available From NVCC
WATERBURY â To meet the growing demand for homemaker-home health aides (HHA), Naugatuck alley Community College (NVCC) is currently offering several HHA training sessions.
NVCCâs 90-hour course prepares students of all ages to work as a home health aide under the direct supervision of a registered nurse within a physicianâs plan of care. The combination of classes and clinical experience provide entry level skills necessary to perform selected personal care, home management and social services for people of all ages and their families. A nurse, a social worker and a dietician are involved in the teaching of NVCCâs homemaker-home health aide courses along with guest lectures from an attorney and physical therapists.
Classes are held in Waterbury, Hartford, Simsbury, New Haven and Milford during the day, at various times. Three evening classes are planned for Waterbury, Middletown and Norwich. Clinical experience working with patients is provided in nursing homes in the six regional areas.
All classes are approved as meeting federal and state guidelines as determined by the Connecticut Department of Health. The cost is $156 and includes a textbook, liability insurance for clinical experience and required competency testing. Classes begin in late February and run until early June.
