BPW Offers Scholarships

The Business and Professional Women’s Club (BPW) of Newtown and the Connecticut F    ederation of Business and Professional Women’s Clubs (CT/BPW) are offering several $500 scholarships to women who are 25 years or older and who want to improve their chances for advancement, train for a new career, or enter or re-enter the work force.

Applicants must be enrolled or have been accepted at an accredited insitutution in the United States. The scholarships do not cover doctoral or post-doctoral degrees or enrollment in a correspondence school.

Newtown BPW is offering two $500 scholarships to women who live or work in the area served by the Newtown club. Applicants must prepare an essay, of no more than 250 words, stating why the scholarship is needed, and also complete an application and submit a resume of employment history.

Claudine Gellella and Evie Watts are co-chairpersons of the Newtown BPW scholarship committee. To receive application forms, call Evie Watts at 426-5532 or write to her at 55 Hattertown Road, Newtown, CT 06470. Completed applications are due by March 17. The scholarship recipients will be announced on April 3.

Ms Watts also has forms for the CT/BPW scholarships. These scholarships are open to women from all parts of the state. The deadline for these applications is April 10. These scholarships will be awarded at the annual state conference in May.

Each king in a deck of playing cards represents a great king from history: the spades are King David, the clubs are Alexander the Great, the hearts are Charlemange, and the diamonds are Julius Caesar.
