The Newtown-New Fairfield hockey team took on the Joel Barlow, Weston, Abbott Tech (JBWA) squad for the second time this year, in the annual Wounded Warrior fundraiser game at Danbury Ice Arena on February 12; more than $2,000 was raised.

After losing the first contest 8-1, the Nighthawks fared better, but still fell short 4-1 despite an excellent outing from goaltender Carter Bisson. After falling behind by two goals in the first period, the NNF Hawks finally got on the board in the early part of the second period on the power play when captain Luca Moura sent a clapper towards the net as he crossed the blue line. Assistant captain Andrew Sanchez and Quinn Harris assisted the play.

Unfortunately for the Hawks that is as close as they would get as a penalty box parade set the tone for the rest of the evening. Some scrappy play by both teams led to several minutes of sin bin time for players of both squads. After a back-and-forth final period JBWA scored on the power play to help seal the win. The final goal was scored on the empty net with NNF having pulled the goalie in favor of a sixth attacker looking to draw closer.

Bisson stopped 25 shots, some of the difficult variety. Several players turned in strong performances including Jordan Balla and Ryan Schmidt on the blue line. As the season winds to a close the games have tightened for the Hawk skaters who are hopeful a victory is in the cards soon.

The JV Hawks played their third contest of the season and won. In the modified, 75-minute game versus Shepaug the Nighthawks came out on top 4-2 in a dominant performance. The Hawks constantly peppered the Spartan goal outshooting the visitors 48-16. When called upon, goaltender Kaylee Awrachow was equal to the task making some quality saves. Four Hawks found the back of the net with Colby Cheneski, Jackson Molison, Schmidt (game winner) and Mikey Risoli all lighting the lamp. Several different players added apples on the day with assists being dished out to Cheneski (two), Evan Kliczewski, Noah Kirshner, and Cam Longhi one each.
