Barbara Schnuck, loving mother, wife, daughter, and friend, passed away on February 18 at the age of 66.

Born in Tennessee on August 27, 1954, to the late Cynthia Hughes Wood and Rex Wood, she lived between growing up in Tennessee, Texas, and finally settling down in Connecticut. Barb was a graduate of Newtown High School, Class of 1972. She enjoyed a life with my many friends and family, including her late husband, Gregory Schnuck; her daughter, Katie Schnuck Goodsell; son-in-law Joshua Goodsell; her grandson, Gareth Goodsell; a basset hound, Droopy; and tuxedo cat, Apollo.

She always put others ahead of herself. Her care, her compassion, her laugh, and her smile will hold strong in many hearts. She found enjoyment of great conversations, British television, reading, Journey, apple cider, snow, bear claws, puzzles, Cape Cod, Disney World, Diet Pepsi, bird watching, word games, homemade pickles, sewing, and more.

The last few years of her life, she spent a great amount of time advocating that “life is good,” even when fighting cancer. But cancer isn’t who she was — it was just a bump in the road that she constantly reminded wasn’t welcome to consume her. A tremendous and grateful thank you to Dr Vincent Rella, Deanna Ballard, and the team at the Praxair Cancer Center at Danbury Hospital for their many years of care, compassion, and friendship, as well as the 11th Oncology floor for their kindness and calm environment during her transition from this life to the next.

For many years prior to retirement, she worked at King Street Primary library as a media tech aid for over two decades. Being able to help a child grow, read, and use their imagination was an everyday occurrence, as she treated everyone as if they were family. She always wanted the best for others as well as for them to see their specialness and know that they were loved within themselves, and usually after just one conversation with her, they would. That was one of her many gifts.

Barb’s legacy is more than enough for any great life and our appreciation and love will never fade.

There will be a life celebration that will be announced at a later date.
