Steven L. Tozser

Former Member Board Of Fire Commissioners In Newtown

Steven L. Tozser, 88, of the Botsford section of Newtown died February 21 in Danbury Hospital. Mr Tozser was the husband of the late Priscilla (Barna) Tozser. He was born in Bridgeport on May 24, 1919, a son of Louis and Elizabeth Tozser.

During World War II, Mr Tozser served in the US Army Battery D for Long Island Sound Coastal Defenses. He was a machinist at Bullard’s until his retirement.

A resident of Newtown for 58 years, Mr Tozser was a charter member of the United Fire Company of Botsford where he served in a number of positions over the years. He was also a former member of the Board of Fire Commissioners for the Town of Newtown. He served in the Connecticut State Police Auxiliary and the Newtown Police Auxiliary, where he directed traffic at Newtown churches on Sundays. He was a communicant of St Rose of Lima Church.

Mr Tozser is survived by his daughter, Priscilla Vayan of Newtown; a sister, Marion Hmursik of Stratford; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. A daughter, Susan Bosse, predeceased Mr Tozser.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St Rose of Lima Church, Monday, February 25, at 10 am. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery with military honors will follow. Friends may call at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, Sunday, February 24, from 2 to 6 pm.
