Slippery Road

About 4:46 pm February 12 in snowy conditions, motorist Galindo Sherezada, 18, of 39 Pine Tree Hill Road was driving a 1999 Honda Accord sedan northward on a snow-covered Pine Tree Hill Road, police said.

The auto then began sliding and went off the right road shoulder, colliding with a utility pole, police report. Sherezada was not injured. Police verbally warned her for traveling too fast for conditions.

Pole Bridge Road

Police report a two-vehicle accident on Pole Bridge Road in Sandy Hook about 7:49 am February 12.

Westbound motorist Valerie Blasi, 51, of 121 Lakeview Terrace, who was driving a 1997 Nissan Sentra, came to a stop for some stopped vehicles which were ahead of her on the road, police said.

Westbound motorist Nicholas Currier, 53, of 2 Alpine Drive, who was driving a 1998 GMC Sierra pickup truck, then struck the Nissan from behind, police report.

There were no injuries. Currier received a written warning for following too closely, according to police.

Hattertown Crash

Motorist Andrea Oefinger, 39, of Dodgingtown Road, who was driving a 1996 Saturn sedan northward on Hattertown Road about 5:43 pm February 12, began to slide on the snow-covered road and then went off the right road shoulder, striking a tree, police said in a report.

Oefinger was not injured. Police verbally warned her for traveling too fast for conditions.

 

Warrant

Police report they arrested Sean R. Surat, 22, of 25 Boggs Hill Road on a warrant on February 13 in Danbury, charging him with using a motor vehicle without the owner’s permission.

The arrest warrant had been issued at Danbury Superior Court on January 24 in connection with a motor vehicle accident that occurred in Newtown on December 31, police said.

Following processing at the Newtown police station, police released Surat from custody on a written promise to appear in court on February 26.

 

Snowy Road

About 12:15 am on February 13, motorist Nemesis Orellana-Maradiaga, 20, of Norwalk, who was driving a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee northward on Toddy Hill Road, slid on the snowy road surface and collided with a utility pole, police said.

Orellana-Maradiaga was not injured. Police verbally warned her for traveling too fast for conditions.

Buick Vs Ford

Police report that motorist Beatrice Piskura, 80, of Pond Brook Road, who was driving a 1996 Buick sedan, was exiting a driveway at 47 Pond Brook Road about 10:12 am February 12, as motorist Billy Joe Wooster, 26, of Danbury was driving a 1999 Ford coupe on Pond Brook Road.

The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police issued Piskura a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

Hazardous Intersection

A two-vehicle accident occurred in wet conditions at the hazardous intersection of South Main Street and Prospect Drive about 1:45 pm February 13.

Motorist Rosa Valerio, 36, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 1994 Honda Accord southward on South Main Street, stopped for traffic conditions, police said.

Southbound motorist Bryan Novella, 23, of 59 Bear Hills Road, who was driving a 2003 Toyota pickup truck, then struck the Honda from behind, police said.

Ambulance volunteers transported Valerio to Danbury Hospital to be checked for a complaint of neck/back pain, police said. Novella received a written warning for following too closely, according to police.

Volvo

Motorist Marina Virgalla, 17, of 10 Flintrock Trail was driving a 1989 Volvo 244 sedan in snowy conditions near 125 Brushy Hill Road about 4:52 pm February 12, when the auto slid on the snowy pavement and struck a stone wall, police report.

 Ambulance volunteers checked Virgalla at the scene for a complaint of head pain, police said. Virgalla received a written warning for making a restricted turn, according to police.

Rollover

Motorist Richard Lengel, 51, of 32 West Street was driving a 2004 Ford F-350 pickup truck eastward on Walnut Tree Hill Road, near its intersection with Shepaug Road, about 11:56 pm February 12, when the truck started sliding on the snowy road, police said.

The truck slid across the road and struck some curbing, causing it to roll over onto its roof, police said. Lengel was not injured. Police issued him a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Headlamp Violation

Police said they stopped motorist Ryan C. Chapin, 23, of 199 Walnut Tree Hill Road while he was driving on Glen Road at about 1:40 am February 16, because the vehicle that Chapin was driving had a headlamp that was not lit.

After investigating, police issued Chapin violations for driving with a broken headlamp and for driving with a suspended license.

After processing, police released Chapin on a written promise to appear in court on March 4.

Multiple Charges

Police report that on the afternoon of February 16, they responded to a disturbance at a business at 102 Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook Center.

Police said that Lisa Dolyak, 43, of 5 Forest View Drive had created a public disturbance at 102 Church Hill Road, after which she left the area.

After being provided with a description of the vehicle that she was driving, police located Dolyak to investigate. Police said they charged her with creating a public disturbance, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving while under suspension, and failure to have automotive insurance.

Police released Dolyak on a written promise to appear February 29 in Danbury Superior Court.

Interstate Collision

About 9:57 am February 15, motorist Karis Greene, 37, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2005 Mazda Tribute westward on Interstate 84, west of Exit 13, slowed for traffic conditions and was struck from behind by westbound motorist Karen Ali, 41, of Waterbury, who was driving a 1999 Saab 9-3, state police said. There were no injuries.

Ice Impact

About 9:35 am February 15, motorist Silvia Gee, 44, of Oxford was driving a 2008 Honda Pilot westward on Interstate 84, west of Exit 10, when a large chunk of ice blew off of a vehicle traveling in front of her and then struck the Honda’s windshield, damaging it, state police said. Gee was not injured.

Highway Accident

About 2:21 am February 13, motorist Edward Thompson of 57 Pole Bridge Road was driving a 2002 Ford Taurus westward on Interstate 84, near the Exit 11 on-ramp, when he lost control of the vehicle and struck some guardrailing along the right road shoulder, state police report.

Thompson was not injured. State police said they issued him an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.

Across the Median

About 4:28 pm February 12 during slippery road conditions, motorist Debbie Lee Procaccini-Glaser, 46, of 14 Russett Road, who was driving a 1997 Nissan Pathfinder SUV westward on Interstate 84, west of Exit 10, lost control of the vehicle, drove across the highway’s median and entered the eastbound lanes, colliding with eastbound motorist Nancy Haynes, 60, of Southbury, who was driving 2007 Toyota RAV-4 SUV, state police said.

Ambulance volunteers transported a passenger in the Nissan, Amanda Glaser, age 9, of 14 Russett Road to Danbury Hospital to be checked for pain, state police said. Amanda Glaser was treated and released, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Hawleyville firefighters were dispatched to the accident scene. The accident caused some travel delays in the area. State police issued Debbie Lee Procaccini-Glaser a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Warrant

On the afternoon of February 14, Newtown police learned that Derby police had in their custody Charles Murphy, 25, of Southbury, for whom Newtown police held an arrest warrant.

Newtown police transported Murphy to Newtown where they charged him with sixth-degree larceny and with driving with a suspended license. Newtown police said that Murphy had failed to pay for some pumped gasoline and then drove away from the gas station while his driver’s license was under suspension last November 27.

Newtown police released Murphy on a written promise to appear in court on February 28. Newtown police then turned over Murphy to state police who also held a warrant on Murphy.

Burglary/Larceny

Police report that sometime between 1 and 3 pm on February 15, someone burglarized a Hattertown Road residence and stole unspecified items from the premises. Police are investigating the crime and ask anyone with information on the incident to contact them at 426-5841.

Pond Brook Road

About 8:45 am February 15, motorist Esmie Lindsay, 66, of Danbury was driving a 2000 Honda Accord sedan northward on Pond Brook Road, near Newbury Road, when the Honda lost traction on the icy pavement, police report.

The vehicle slid backward, went off the road, and then broke through some fencing at 46 Pond Brook Road, police said.

Lindsay was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Sandy Hook Accident

About 8:38 am February 13, motorist Erin Nemeth, 16, of 58 Charter Ridge Road, who was driving a 2007 Honda Civic, was waiting for traffic on southbound Bennetts Bridge Road, at its intersection with Berkshire Road, police said.

Motorist Richard Rastelli, 56, of 3 Yogananda Street, who was driving a 1992 Buick Century southward on Bennetts Bridge Road, then struck the rear end of the Honda, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Rastelli for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Congested Area

About 4:50 pm on February 15, motorist Stephen Petruck, 54, of Shelton, who was driving a 2004 Hyundai station wagon, was waiting in westbound traffic on Church Hill Road, near its intersection with Edmond Road, police said.

Motorist Cynthia Scheibel, 64, of Taunton Hill Road, who was driving a 2005 Ford station wagon, then exited the driveway of the Mobil gas station at 62 Church Hill Road and headed westward, colliding with the rear end of the Hyundai, police said.

Petruck complained of pain, but he refused to be transported to the hospital by ambulance volunteers, police said. Hook & Ladder firefighters responded to the accident.

Scheibel received an infraction ticket for following too closely, police said.

Drug Charges

Police said they stopped motorist David Manville, 18, of 15 Timbermill Road about 5:53 pm February 19 near 29 Church Hill Road because the vehicle that he was driving had a defective taillamp.

Police said they had their German shepherd sniff the vehicle’s exterior and the dog indicated that narcotics were present inside the vehicle. A search turned up some marijuana and rolling papers inside the vehicle, police said.

Police charged Manville with driving with a defective taillamp, possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A passenger in the vehicle, Erik Jurman, 19, of 21 Pebble Road, was charged with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, police said.

Police released Manville on $100 bail for a March 4 court appearance. Police held Jurman on $100 bail for a February 20 court appearance.

SUV Vs Pole

Motorist Anthony Morris, 25, of 209 Riverside Road was driving a 2001 Ford Explorer westward on Riverside Road about 7:33 am February 19,  when he slid to the right due to icy road conditions, police said.

The Ford then collided with a utility pole, police said. Morris then drove home and contacted police who investigated the accident, according to police.

Morris was not injured, police said. Police took no enforcement.

Town Truck

Matthew Schaub, 23, of Southbury was driving a town-owned 1999 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck eastward near 51 Pole Bridge Road in dark, wet, rainy conditions about 6 pm February 13, police said.

Schaub told police that his vision was obscured by the headlamps of a westbound vehicle, after which he encountered some fallen tree branches in the eastbound lane. Schaub attempted to avoid a collision but struck the tree braches, police said.

Schaub was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Volvo Vs Audi

Police report a two-car accident at the hazardous intersection of The Boulevard and Church Hill Road about 7:30 am February 14.

Motorist Kimberly Stendahl, 48, of 9 Hanover Road was driving a 2000 Volvo SSE sedan southward on The Boulevard and then stopped at a stop sign at The Boulevard’s intersection with Church Hill Road, police said.

At that time, motorist Gail Shaker, 48, of 72 Engleside Terrace was driving a 1998 Audi A4-Q sedan eastward on Church Hill Road, police said.

The Volvo then attempted to make a left turn onto eastbound Church Hill Road but collided with the Audi, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Stendahl for failure to grant the right of way, and also issued her an infraction ticket for failure to renew a driver’s license.
